Job Title: Iron Worker
Job Description
This role focuses on renovation projects ranging from small service jobs lasting a couple of days to larger projects spanning several months. You will work on a variety of tasks including railings, commercial stairs, and structural steel activities, often moving between different job sites as project needs change.
Responsibilities

• Perform iron work on renovation projects, including small service jobs and longer-term assignments.
• Install, repair, and maintain railings and commercial stairs in commercial and renovation environments.
• Assemble structural steel components and parts accurately according to specifications and drawings.
• Perform welding tasks, including certified stick welding, to join and secure metal components safely and effectively.
• Use Mischmetal in molten iron and steel to help remove unwanted oxygen and sulfur as required by project specifications.
• Connect and assemble structural elements, ensuring proper alignment, fit, and stability.
• Set up and operate rigging equipment to move, position, and secure structural steel and other heavy materials.
• Perform some structural work, including reinforcing and modifying existing steel structures during renovation projects.
• Operate forklifts, scissor lifts, and other material handling equipment safely to move materials and access work areas.
• Follow all safety procedures and guidelines, including OSHA requirements and site-specific safety rules.
• Inspect tools, equipment, and work areas to maintain a safe and efficient job site.
• Collaborate with other trades and team members to complete projects on time and according to quality standards.
• Travel between multiple renovation sites as needed within the designated service area.

Essential Skills

• At least 5 years of experience in iron work, structural steel, or closely related construction work.
• Proficiency in welding, including certified stick welding, for structural and fabrication tasks.
• Hands-on experience with structural steel construction, assembly, and installation.
• Strong skills in connecting and assembling metal components and structural elements.
• Rigging skills for safely lifting, moving, and positioning structural steel and other heavy materials.
• Ability to perform some structural modification and reinforcement work in renovation settings.
• Certified Welding (Stick).
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
• Rigging certification.
• Forklift or scissor lift certification.
• Ability to read and follow instructions, plans, and specifications related to steel and iron work.
• Commitment to safe work practices and adherence to all safety regulations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working on renovation projects and small service jobs with varying durations.
• Background in construction and field-based iron work across multiple job sites.
• Familiarity with using Mischmetal in molten iron and steel to improve material quality.
• Ability to adapt quickly to different tasks and locations as projects require.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills when coordinating with other trades and site personnel.
• Capability to travel within the service area for day-to-day project needs.

Work Environment
You will work on renovation projects across areas including Northern Virginia, Washington, DC, and Prince George's County. The role operates primarily on a day shift schedule. Work takes place on active construction and renovation sites, where you will handle structural steel, railings, commercial stairs, and related materials. You will use equipment such as welding tools, rigging systems, forklifts, and scissor lifts. The environment requires consistent adherence to safety practices, use of appropriate personal protective equipment, and readiness to move between different job sites as project needs change.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Orange, VA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $36.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
