Custodian

The Salvation Army Granite City Corps located in Granite City, IL is looking for a Custodian. The Custodian is responsible for the general maintenance and custodial duties of the 360 Life Center building and grounds.

This is a part-time position, 27 hours per week, $15.00 per hour.

Essential Functions

1. Perform housekeeping duties including: dusting, window washing, cleaning restrooms, emptying trash, vacuuming, spot carpet cleaning carpets, sweeping/mopping, etc.
2. Make small or minor repairs (e.g., change furnace filters, replace light switches/ballasts; replace faucets, doorknobs, etc.) as necessary and bring major repairs to the 360 Life Center Site Administrator's attention.
3. Maintain Corps grounds to include: yard work, trash removal, snow removal, lawn mowing and any additional outside repairs as necessary.
4. Maintain the overall appearance and functionality of all properties
5. Operate and maintain all equipment, and ensure vehicles receive proper and timely maintenance at the 360 Life Center.
6. Keep maintenance rooms clean and in order.
7. Complete maintenance and 360 Life Center furniture inventory.
8. Prepare rooms for programs, luncheons and other meetings.
9. Participate in team training and development when necessary.
10. Maintain confidentiality, proper boundaries with clients and comply with Salvation Army Safe From Harm guidelines.
11. Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relationships with clients, visitors, co-workers and supervisor. This includes, but is not limited to, such actions as: resolution of conflicts in a professional manner; courteous treatment of staff, visitors and clients; respect of others' property and person; and professional and appropriate communications to and about visitors, clients, co-workers and supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A High School Diploma or GED with one year related work experience. Combination of training and experience will be considered.
2. Ability to read and comprehend a job description, cleaning instructions and material safety data sheet.
3. Basic communication skills to facilitate good communications between visitors and other employees.
4. Requires appropriate valid driver's license (MO "E" or IL "D") and must pass The Salvation Army MVR check.

Physical and Working Conditions

Capable of frequently lifting 30 pounds, occasionally lifting up to 100 pounds. Occasionally moves 100 pounds or more using dolly/cart/truck. Majority of lifting is from floor to waist height. Some lifting required above waist and shoulder high but it will be at a reduced weight. Position will have to bend, stoop, crouch, stand, walk, carry and push/pull items to accomplish this job. Occasionally climb a ladder to work (replace light bulbs, etc.). Some of this work will be outdoors and it will be cold in the winter and hot in the summer.

Employee Status

PART-TIME: Normal work hours will be determined by supervisor.
