Facility EHS Manager

Under the direction of the General Manager, will assist with the overall supervision and administration of safety, accident, and fire protection programs to maintain a safe and healthy work environment. Deliver outstanding performance by maintaining a safe and healthful environment for site operation. You will identify and anticipate concerns and hazards and develop and enforce systems, policies, and procedures.

Key responsibilities include:

• Championing the Balfour Beatty ZERO Harm Culture
• Developing, leading, and executing strategies to drive the site-wide safety culture towards minimizing safety risk and achieving an injury-free operation.
• Implementing and driving continuous improvement activities and best practices.
• Managing, leading, and overseeing the environmental aspect of the facility and the safety programs within the facility.
• Championing employee empowerment to identify and address safety concerns, and generate new ideas related to safety and health.
• Promoting and participating in employee involvement programs such as project teams, committees, and internal training.
• Actively participating in incident investigations and resulting recommendations for improvement, which also includes tracking metrics, preparing and filing safety incident reports, and applying findings.
• Carrying out safety risk assessments prior to starting a new process, including safe installation of equipment through internal and external resources.
• Maintaining the NC Star safety programs and related compliance audits.
• Developing and coordinating Management Training, Annual Refresher Training, New Employee Training, Task Specific Training, Independent Contractor, and First Aid Safety Training Programs to be presented to all employees.
• Conducting EH&S performance compliance audits to ensure the safety of our workplace and employees.
• Maintaining and increasing professional knowledge and expertise related to the fields of environmental protection, occupational health, and industrial safety. Staying up to date with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
• Conducting safety inspections, accident investigation, workers' compensation reporting and mitigation techniques. Ensuring all are properly logged and documented.
• Routinely walking the plant reviewing for trip hazards, housekeeping issues, electrical related risks, and other potential safety risk items. Identifying and recommending preventative measures and corrective actions.
• Coordinating safety boots and prescription safety eyewear programs.

Qualifications include:

• 58+ years of facility safety experience, with at least 23 years in a leadership or management role.
• Preferred a Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent industry experience).
• Strong knowledge of DOT, EPA, and OSHA industry standards, and industry best practices.
• Preferred Certifications: CSP, CIH, OHST, ASP, OSHA 30/500, First Aid/CPR.

Skills and competencies include:

• Excellent leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and field demands.
• Proficiency with EHS management systems, reporting software, and Microsoft Office.
• Valid US driver's license.

Physical requirements include:

• Ability to walk, climb, and stand for extended periods.
• Ability to lift 2550 lbs. as needed.
• Ability to wear required PPE (hard hat, safety boots, high-visibility vest, gloves, fall protection, respirator) if required.
