Job Title: Safety Specialist 
Shift / Hours: 8am - 5pm 
Location: San Antonio, TX
Salary: $43K - $48K

Position Overview

The Safety Specialist plays a key role in promoting a culture of workplace safety and regulatory compliance across operations. This position partners with site leadership to develop, implement, and oversee safety initiatives that align with applicable occupational health and safety standards. The role involves evaluating workplace conditions, identifying potential hazards, supporting incident prevention efforts, and ensuring employees have the training and resources needed to work safely.

Primary Responsibilities

• Facilitate regular safety meetings, committee discussions, and awareness initiatives
• Foster a safe and compliant work environment through active monitoring and employee engagement
• Develop training materials and educational resources to address regulatory and operational safety needs
• Analyze injury, incident, and near-miss data to identify trends and support continuous improvement efforts
• Assist with the administration and continuous improvement of workplace safety programs and procedures
• Conduct routine inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions
• Ensure adherence to company policies, customer requirements, and applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations
• Spend significant time in operational areas observing work practices, coaching employees, and verifying compliance
• Collaborate with operational leaders and corporate safety teams to strengthen safety processes and management systems
• Maintain safety records, reports, metrics, and compliance documentation in accordance with organizational requirements
• Track safety performance indicators and communicate trends, concerns, and improvement opportunities to management
• Coordinate and deliver safety training programs, including onboarding, refresher courses, and equipment certification as needed

Required Qualifications

• Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills
• Proficiency with computers and standard business software applications
• Commitment to maintaining a positive attendance, performance, and safety record
• Ability to facilitate meetings, conduct training sessions, and present information clearly
• Knowledge of powered industrial trucks and warehouse operations; forklift certification preferred
• High school diploma or equivalent required; additional safety-related education or certifications are a plus
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively at all organizational levels
• One to three years of experience in occupational safety, environmental health and safety (EHS), or a related field preferred
• Support incident investigations by gathering information, documenting findings, and helping implement corrective and preventive measures

Work Environment

• Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
• Regular physical activity is required, including standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting items up to 30 pounds
• Flexibility to work varying schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, may be required based on operational needs
• Work is performed primarily in a warehouse or distribution environment with exposure to varying temperatures, noise levels, and occasional outdoor conditions
