Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner - Part Time

Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner - Part Time Psychiatric Nursing Practitioners are Registered Professional Nurses with preparation in a specialized educational program who provide health care to clients in an outpatient setting. A licensed physician is designated as the physician of record. The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner works under the supervision and direction of the Physician and in accordance with written protocol. The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner works closely with the clinic staff in planning, developing and implementing a sound program which provides services and facilities to promote mental health wellness. The incumbent cooperates with members of the staff in promoting coordination of efforts and utilization of health information available to the clients. The incumbent does related work as required. FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES and PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS Thorough knowledge of nursing principles and techniques and their relation to medical practices; thorough knowledge of the theory and practice of preventive and public health care inclusive of those skills required to develop and implement a plan of primary health care to meet client needs; thorough knowledge of normal and abnormal signs and symptoms relating to physical and emotional health; thorough knowledge of nurse practitioner skills; thorough knowledge of practices and procedures involving communicable diseases; thorough knowledge of medications and drugs, common dosages and their physical and psychological effects; ability to perform physical examination and to assess the physical condition of clients; ability to understand and carry out technical oral and written instructions; ability to deal empathetically with problems of clients; ability to instruct personnel in the techniques and practices of patient care.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

Makes nursing assessments of actual or potential health problems by case findings and health counseling; Provides primary comprehensive health appraisals for clinic clients; Initiates, facilitates and interprets preventive, developmental and diagnostic procedures; Assists in identifying goals and objectives, policies and procedures for the clinic health program; Provides health information individually to clients and their families; Performs comprehensive examinations, including physical, neurodevelopmental, social, emotional, and/or any other assessments deemed appropriate; Reviews and develops cumulative health records for clients; Establishes appropriate policies and procedures for clinic health services in collaboration with administrators; Provides mental health guidance that prepares clients to participate on a knowledgeable basis in their own health care; Obtains medical histories of clients by collecting data on background, physical and mental condition, medications or treatments and other pertinent information; In collaboration with the Physician, orders routine and laboratory tests, such as CBC, blood chemistry, urinalysis, serology, etc.; Prepares a variety of records and reports. #J-18808-Ljbffr Wayne Economic Development Corporation
