Job Title: Med/Surg Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Acute Care Med/Surg Duration: 26-27 Weeks Shift: Full-Time, Day/Night Variable Shifts Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum of 2 years of Med/Surg experience required License: State RN Licensure Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: 2 years of Med/Surg experience is required Description: The Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical, and communication skills in delivering high-quality, compassionate care to patients and families. The RN assesses patient needs and develops a plan of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team. The RN provides direct care, evaluates patient progress, and coordinates the care delivery throughout the patient’s episode. The Med/Surg RN develops specialized skills in the area of cardiac care including telemetry monitoring. The RN is accountable for patient and family education to assist the patient and family in understanding self-care beyond hospitalization. This includes lifestyle changes to support health and healing. The RN promotes comfort and provides emotional support in a healing environment. The RN applies nursing knowledge and skill in the delivery of care by assessing patient and family needs through active listening. The RN engages in social perceptiveness and analyzes data or information obtained through direct observation and assessment. The RN creates an individualized plan of care that is developmentally and age-appropriate, culturally relevant, to address the health problems identified. In collaboration with the patient, family, physician, and healthcare team members, the RN sets goals and monitors the patient’s progress. The RN adjusts the plan based on patient response, changes in condition, or reprioritization of needs. The RN promotes, advocates for, and protects the health, safety, and rights of the patient. The RN systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice. The results of quality improvement activities are used to initiate changes in individual nursing practice and influence care delivery. The RN engages in self-evaluation of practice, identifying strengths and areas for professional development. The RN takes accountability to increase knowledge and enhance skill. The RN demonstrates logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions to problems. The RN motivates the patient and family by teaching them what is needed to continue care and healing at home. The RN assesses patient and family learning styles and structures the education sessions to maximize understanding. The RN seeks teachable moments during the care delivery process to emphasize pertinent information. The RN documents the education provided and the patient/family response to the education. The RN encourages and builds mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members to promote the best possible patient outcomes. The RN complies with infection prevention strategies and maintains competencies required to care for the specific population assigned. The RN reports potential safety risks and questionable practices. The RN promotes leadership awareness and fosters positive change. The RN conducts rounds and uses tools and equipment to keep the patient and family informed, engaged, and safe.
