Commercial CarpenterThis role constructs, erects, installs, and repairs structures and fixtures made of wood, plywood, wallboard, and related materials. The position uses a variety of hand and power tools while strictly adhering to local building codes and project specifications. The carpenter interprets blueprints and plans, prepares precise layouts, and delivers high-quality commercial construction work on schedule.ResponsibilitiesStudy blueprints, sketches, and building plans to determine required materials, construction methods, and sequencing of work.Review specifications to plan construction procedures, including start and completion timelines and staffing needs for carpentry tasks.Prepare accurate layouts using measuring tools such as rules, framing squares, and calipers.Mark cutting and assembly lines on materials to prescribed measurements using appropriate tools.Cut, shape, and assemble materials, fastening components with nails, dowel pins, glue, and other approved methods.Verify the trueness and alignment of structures using levels, plumb bobs, and other measuring devices.Erect frameworks for structures and install sub-flooring according to plans and codes.Build stairs and lay out, construct, and install partitions and cabinetwork.Apply shock-absorbing, sound-deadening, and decorative paneling to ceilings and walls.Oversee and perform production and quality work on millwork, trim, metal studs, drywall, and acoustic ceilings.Fit and install prefabricated window frames, doors, door frames, weather stripping, interior and exterior trim, and finish hardware such as locks.Erect scaffolding and ladders to safely assemble structures above ground level.Fit and nail sheathing on outer walls and roofs of buildings.Install door and window bucks in designated positions in the building framework and brace them securely.Manage small special projects, ensuring they are completed safely, on time, and to quality standards.Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively throughout all phases of commercial construction.Essential SkillsAt least 2 years of carpentry experience, preferably in commercial construction.Strong carpentry skills, including framing, trim carpentry, finish carpentry, and paneling.Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and building plans.Proficiency with construction tools, including hand tools and power tools.Ability to install doors, commercial doors, windows, trim, and related hardware.Experience working with metal studs, drywall, millwork, and acoustic ceilings.Ability to understand and follow verbal and written directions.Capability to solve basic mathematical problems quickly and accurately for measurements and layout.Ability to read and use measuring tools and levels accurately.Physical ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and occasionally more.Ability to stand or walk for long periods and perform repetitive motions with arms and hands.Ability to safely work with sharp tools and power equipment.Comfort working both indoors and outdoors in a construction environment.Demonstrated attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience installing commercial doors and finish hardware.Experience in scaffolding setup and use for elevated work.Experience managing or coordinating small special projects.Familiarity with shock-absorbing, sound-deadening, and decorative paneling applications.Exposure to a variety of commercial construction settings and project types.Why Work Here?You can join a stable construction team with steady project flow in multiple locations, including Columbus, Sidney, and Dayton, Ohio.
