Medical Assistant Lead

Description At Elica Health Centers, we provide exceptional healthcare services to underserved patients through our Community Health Clinics, mobile medicine program Health on Wheels, and Resource Center. Our goal is to deliver the best possible patient care to our growing community. What You Will Do Cover Supervisor during absence (weekly schedule, lunch schedule). Monitor vaccine units to ensure compliance with VFC requirements and regulations. Record temperature twice daily in a legible manner. Perform daily, weekly, and monthly autoclave cleaning maintenance and spore testing. Conduct inventory counts for vaccines, emergency crash cart, and departmental supplies. Prepare, clean, and stock exam rooms between patients. Participate in daily provider huddles. Manage voicemails and return calls promptly. Complete assigned tasks in dashboards and workflows. Room patients: obtain vitals, medical history, allergies, reconcile medications; document in Athena EHR and assist providers during exams/procedures. Administer injections, immunizations, and ordered diagnostic tests/referrals; document accurately in EHR. Perform standing orders and CLIA‑waived tests (urine dip, pregnancy test, strep, HbA1c, glucose, hemoglobin, PT/INR, TB skin tests). Conduct diagnostic tests and age‑appropriate screenings as directed (EKG, spirometry, audiometry). Maintain accurate documentation, including immunizations, chart prep, and scanning patient records into EHR. Monitor and log refrigerator/freezer temperatures daily. Respond to urgent situations and initiate emergency measures as needed. Check out patients, schedule follow‑ups, and coordinate with front desk on payments. Perform end‑of‑shift room and clinic closure duties. Ensure compliance with OSHA, safety standards, universal precautions, and organizational policies. Support clinic operations by maintaining patient flow and communicating supply/equipment needs. Report safety hazards, incidents, and unusual occurrences promptly and complete required documentation. Sterilize equipment per required schedules and assist with audit preparation. Perform other duties as assigned. Eligibility Benefits are available to employees working 30+ hours per week , effective the first of the month following 30 days of employment. Compensation Disclosure $28.00 – $36.50 per hour. Final compensation will be determined based on job‑related factors, including relevant experience, education, certifications, skills, and qualifications. Requirements High School Diploma or equivalent. Completion of a formal Medical Assistant program or a comparable combination of training and experience. Current BLS/CPR certification. Ability to maintain records and files. Ability to operate a computer, use office equipment including a copier, office telephone, and appropriate clinic equipment. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Physical ability to exert effort in maintaining and distributing files. Knowledge of basic clinic medical care and procedures. Cultural competence and responsiveness to diverse and special populations. Additional Requirements Must have a current and valid California driver’s license and proof of personal auto insurance for the vehicle driven during working hours. If selected, external hires must provide proof of immunizations (Hepatitis B, MMR, Varicella & Tetanus), tuberculosis clearance, and proof of COVID‑19 vaccination status prior to scheduled start date. Position is subject to criminal background investigation and drug screen. Physical Requirements and Work Environment The work environment is typical of a healthcare facility. Duties include sitting, standing, walking, and handling or lifting. The employee must occasionally lift up to 20 pounds and use visual and auditory skills to communicate in person and over the phone.
