Turning Point Community Programs is seeking a Medical Assistant for our Viking Crisis Residential (Viking) program in Sacramento, CA . GENERAL PURPOSE

Under direction of the Director of Nursing or the Medical Director, this position is responsible for providing basic nursing care to members, and perform related work as assigned.

DISTINGUISHING CHRACTERISTICS

This is an at-will direct service position within a program. This position is responsible for all aspects of assessments for member vital statistics and reporting and providing assistance to the programs in medication support. This position is distinguished from an LPT/LVN in that a Medical Assistant may not provide routine blood draws.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY)

• Provides and administers basic nursing care within the scope of practice of an Medical Assistant. Duties typically include, but are not limited to, basic hygiene; measurement of vital signs; basic client assessment utilizing a plan of care established by the RN; performance of prescribed medical treatments; and administration of prescribed medications.
• Teach members and staff regarding health issues, medications, and side effects.
• Provides medical support to other Turning Point facilities as needed.
• Monitors and reports adverse reactions to medications and treatment to the RN and/or Physician.
• Utilizes good infection control procedures.
• Utilizes behavioral management and crisis intervention techniques.
• Carries out social and vocational training tasks.
• Facilitates individual and group therapeutic activities.
• Participates in multi-disciplinary health conferences.
• Administers annual TB testing and flu shots, as needed.
• Gives injections.
• Adheres to and upholds the policies and procedures of Turning Point Community Programs.
• Maintains current First Aid and CPR certificates.
• Maintains valid certification as Medical Assistant

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 10:00 am - 6:30 pm

Compensation: $ 24.00 - 25.74 per hour

Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES

Education, Training and Experience

Minimum Qualifications: A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is through graduation from high school and completion of a Medical Assistant certification program.

Preferred Qualifications: A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is through graduation from high school and completion of a Medical Assistant certification program; plus two (2) years of experience in community mental health providing direct patient treatment/care.

Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:

• Valid Certification in Medical Assistant
• Valid and current First Aid/CPR certification
• California driver's license & current vehicle insurance/registration if driving; and,
• Reliable means of transportation capable of passing vehicle safety inspection if more than five years old excluding all modes of two-wheeled transport inclusive of bicycles, mopeds and motorcycles.
