About the Position

Job Title: Respiratory Therapist Profession: Respiratory Therapy Specialty: Respiratory Therapy Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Day/Night Rotate Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: ACLS BLS Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) via NBRC NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) PALS STABLE Must-Have: Experience in ER and ICU required Inpatient adult experience required Pediatric experience preferred Description: Unit typically staffs 7 respiratory therapists during the day and 5 at night. Each therapist manages as many as 40-70 treatments per day. The type of patients includes primarily adults, with a pediatric inpatient unit and family birthing unit available. Covers all inpatient areas, emergency department, inpatient EKGs, outpatient EKGs, and outpatient bronchoscopy in a procedural setting. May be called to initiate CPAP on an infant. Breathing treatments, ventilation management, ABG draw and sample running, and EKGs for both outpatient and inpatient are core responsibilities. Core respiratory therapists can place arterial lines. They may also cover EKGs for the assigned areas for respiratory treatments. ICU may have as many as 8-9 vents in use at one time. Travelers will not be required to transport critically ill patients outside of the facility. Assists in intubation but does not perform independently. There is always a lead therapist or supervisor available for questions. Sets schedules four weeks in advance with weekend work required every other weekend. Holidays will be worked if they fall on a scheduled workday. There is no call or standby call requirement. Floating is limited to within the facility only. Professional scrubs in any color are acceptable, with a professional appearance. Respiratory equipment includes various models for ventilation and high flow therapy. An open ICU is staffed with pulmonologists and a hospitalist available 24/7. All travelers start on inpatient units before branching out to other areas. A second interview may be conducted, and skill assessments will take place on-site. There is a cancellation policy for shifts within the contract. Charting system utilized is Expanse - hCare. BSN is not required nor is there a trauma level specified. Care setting is acute.
