Job Summary / Responsibilities Treat patients using standard physical therapy procedures such as heat, cold, electricity, traction, ultrasound, and exercise. Treat complex/specialty cases for assigned site(s). Evaluate patients' motor and neurological capabilities and document findings. Assist patients in rehabilitative exercise programs and instruct on the use of rehabilitative equipment such as braces, splints, and ambulation aides. Administer and interpret a variety of tests to evaluate patients' motor and neurological capabilities. Document patient treatments, initial evaluations, progress notes, and discharge summaries in accordance with departmental policies and service line protocols. Co‑sign notes written by physical therapy assistants, aides and/or students. Develop home care programs for patients and provide instruction to families during hospitalization and upon discharge. Provide staff mentoring and develop/implement educational in‑services for staff. Attend interdisciplinary meetings and conferences to report on patient progress; consult regularly with other service line team members regarding patient treatment. May oversee, instruct, and evaluate physical therapy assistants, aides, students, and/or volunteers, as assigned. Maintain equipment and supplies in assigned treatment areas; recommend purchase of supplies and/or equipment as needed. Maintain professional expertise through workshops, lectures, conferences, departmental and service line meetings, etc., to remain current on treatment techniques. Serve as a member of a designated service line. Assist in implementing programs and services to foster an interdisciplinary approach and a service line system of care. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy or certification from an accredited physical therapy program. Three years of clinical experience to acquire skills for independent patient treatment. Current license to practice as a Physical Therapist in the State of Michigan. Minimum of 60 points on the professional growth and development criteria.
