Scheduling Specialist - Gastroenterology - Carmel Valley

Description Full‑Time position (80 hours per pay period) with a Monday‑Friday schedule located at Scripps Clinic in Carmel Valley. Job Title Scheduling Specialist – Gastroenterology Department Responsibilities Interact with patients, payers, and providers to gather information for accurate registration, including assigning a Medical Record Number, scheduling, referral/authorization, point‑of‑service payment collection, document collection, and arrival/check‑in functions. Respond to customer billing and payment inquiries as needed. Mentor and train staff on departmental procedures. Accurately schedule and re‑schedule complex patient procedures and appointments, entering appropriate insurance, initiating authorizations and referrals, and performing Key User duties with minimal errors. Accurately document patient‑to‑provider communication, assess urgency, and elevate issues as appropriate. Manage the patient check‑in and check‑out process, verifying coverage, collecting patient responsibility amounts, and preparing end‑of‑day reporting or payment reconciliation. Display a proactive customer‑service approach by listening to patients, taking ownership of solutions, and involving leadership when necessary to resolve concerns. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Proficiency in Microsoft computer applications with a minimum score of 80%. Excellent mathematical skills and ability to handle monies. Excellent communication and customer service skills. Strong organizational and analytical skills; innovative with ability to identify and solve problems. Ability to adapt, prioritize, and meet deadlines. Knowledge of medical terminology, commercial and government health insurance and billing guidelines, ACA requirements, understanding of DRGs, Medical ICD9/ICD10 codes, CPT/HCPC codes, and modifiers. Preferred Qualifications: 2 years of experience in customer service or a healthcare/medical office environment. Experience scheduling in Epic.
