Job Description

This role focuses on assembling, installing, maintaining, and repairing piping systems in commercial, industrial, and residential settings. You work from blueprints and piping specifications to install overhead and underground systems, ensuring all work meets mechanical, construction, and safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Assemble, install, maintain, and repair piping systems in commercial, industrial, and residential environments.
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and piping specifications to plan and execute installations.
• Fit overhead carbon steel pipe ranging from 2 1/2" up to 8" in diameter.
• Fit overhead copper piping using soldering and Pro Press methods.
• Hang and secure pipe racks to support overhead piping systems.
• Fit and install underground welded carbon steel pipe for various applications.
• Perform threading, welding, brazing, and mechanical fitting for piping systems.
• Install and finish plumbing fixtures in breakrooms and restrooms, including water closets and other fixtures.
• Perform venting and domestic water flow installations, ensuring proper function and code compliance.
• Carry out underground work, including setting drains and preparing for concrete pours.
• Complete sanitation installations and finish work once concrete work is completed.
• Collaborate with onsite trades, journeypersons, and apprentices, maintaining clear communication and a willingness to take direction.
• Follow all safety regulations and use required personal protective equipment while working on site.
• Ensure all installations are completed to a high standard of quality and meet commercial construction requirements.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience fitting overhead carbon steel pipe from 2 1/2" up to 8".
• Experience fitting overhead copper pipe using soldering and Pro Press techniques.
• Hands-on experience hanging and securing pipe racks for overhead piping systems.
• Experience fitting underground welded carbon steel pipe.
• Strong blueprint reading skills for piping systems and commercial construction projects.
• Proficiency in welding, brazing, and mechanical installation of piping systems.
• Ability to perform threading, installation, and fitting of various piping materials.
• Solid understanding of piping systems, schematics, and mechanical layouts.
• Experience working in commercial construction environments, including breakrooms and restrooms.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to take direction and work collaboratively with other trades and team members.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience as a pipefitter or plumber in industrial or commercial settings.
• Experience with plumbing tasks such as threading pipe and setting fixtures.
• Familiarity with venting, domestic water flow, and sanitation installations.
• Ability to work alongside apprentices and support their development through clear communication.
• Comfort working on projects in Holland, Grand Rapids, or Kalamazoo area locations.

Work Environment

You work on commercial projects such as breakrooms and restrooms, focusing on water closets, fixtures, venting, domestic water flow, underground drains, and sanitation installations. Typical shift hours are 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. You collaborate closely with onsite trades, a journeyperson, and apprentices in active construction environments in the Holland, Grand Rapids, or Kalamazoo areas. Required attire includes standard PPE: hard hat, safety vest, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots, ensuring a safe and professional work setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Grand Rapids, MI.

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $45.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

This is a fully onsite position in Grand Rapids,MI.
