Cabin Counselor

Salary: $17.00- $17.75/hour Position Summary Children's Aid runs a respite program in Chappaqua, NY that serves children and teens ages 7-17 with developmental disabilities. The program is offered 29-32 days per year, including weekends, holiday weeks, and one summer week. The cabin counselor provides 24‑hour childcare and activity support for participants in cabin residences. Cabin Counselor is responsible for providing childcare for participants with developmental disabilities. Essential Duties Be directly responsible for the tasks of daily living for 1–5 participants. Review medical alert and special care information for the participants in the cabin. Conduct opening and closing body checks with a staff member. Assist with daily hygiene activities such as changing clothes, grooming, toileting, feeding, and bedtime routines. Walk participants to and from program activities. Engage participants in recreational activities (art/crafts, athletics, cooking, etc.). Assist with loading and unloading participants from the bus, including lifting and transporting wheelchairs. Sleep in cabins with participants and be on call for the overnight counselor who supervises sleeping participants. Perform additional responsibilities that contribute to program success. Complete daily logs and progress notes as directed. Clean cabin as needed. Follow personnel policies governing staff behavior while residents are at camp. Supervised by the Cabin Leader. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Experience working with children. Previous experience with special‑needs children in school or other settings. Ability to work indoors and outdoors, including walking and mobility for several hours. Key Competencies Compassionate and person‑centered care. Team collaboration and communication.
