The Associate Director of Career Services serves as the primary Career Services liaison to the School of Arts & Sciences and School of Architecture, providing comprehensive career coaching and professional development to prepare students and alumni for internships, employment, graduate or professional education, and other post-graduate opportunities. The Associate Director partners with faculty, academic leaders, Career Services colleagues, and campus partners to integrate career readiness and The Wright Advantage program throughout the student experience; connect students with meaningful experiential learning and employer-engagement opportunities; and help students develop and articulate the skills and competencies gained through their academic and applied experiences. The position contributes to Career Services programming, student engagement, assessment, and outcomes in support of the College’s strategic priorities.   

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Provide comprehensive career coaching to students and alumni, including career exploration and decision-making, résumé and cover-letter development, LinkedIn and professional branding, internship and job-search strategies, networking, interview preparation, and graduate or professional school preparation.
2. Help students identify and articulate their interests, values, strengths, skills, experiences, and career-ready competencies and connect these to academic choices, career pathways, and professional goals.
3. Serve as the primary Career Services liaison to the School of Arts & Sciences and School of Architecture, developing collaborative relationships with deans, department chairs, faculty, staff, and other academic partners to identify and address student career-development needs.
4. Partner with faculty and academic leaders to integrate career readiness and The Wright Advantage into the student experience through classroom presentations, workshops, programs, resources, assignments, and other collaborative initiatives.
5. Collaborate with faculty, Career Services colleagues, Student Life, and other campus partners to identify and promote experiential learning opportunities and help students reflect upon and articulate the skills and competencies gained through internships, research, leadership, employment, service, and other applied experiences.
6. Partner with Employer Engagement to identify industry and employer needs relevant to Arts & Sciences and Architecture and connect students with internships, employment opportunities, employer speakers, networking programs, Campus-to-Career Tours, and other employer-connected experiences.
7. Develop and deliver career-development programming for students, including workshops, classroom presentations, student organization programs, and other educational experiences addressing career exploration and preparation, professional development, and career-ready competencies.
8. Conduct proactive and targeted outreach to increase student engagement with Career Services and connect students with relevant resources, programs, opportunities, and technology.
9. Maintain current knowledge of career pathways, employment trends, graduate and professional education options, and emerging workforce needs relevant to Arts & Sciences and Architecture disciplines, and incorporate this information into career coaching, programming, and resources.
10. Collaborate with the Career Services team in planning and implementing signature events, employer and graduate-school programs, networking opportunities, professional-development initiatives, and other College-wide career programs.
11. Document student engagement and outcomes using Career Services technology and contribute to the assessment, tracking, and reporting of career-readiness participation, experiential learning, internships, employment, and graduate/professional school outcomes.
12. Represent Career Services and Florida Southern College at campus programs, admissions and recruitment activities, professional meetings, and other events, and perform other duties as needed to advance the mission and strategic priorities of Career Services and the College.
13. Contribute to the success of Career Services by performing all other duties as needed to drive the vision, fulfill the mission, and abide by the values of the College.

EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS

1. Bachelor’s degree required from an accredited institution with strong knowledge of career development theories, adult development theory, counseling process, career coaching techniques, career decision making, learning styles, and job search techniques. 
2. Master’s degree preferred.
3. A minimum of 1 year experience providing career counseling and planning services is preferred.
4. Strong written and oral communication skills; strong organizational skills, and the ability to routinely multitask.
5. Ability to work well with a wide variety of people; ability to work independently.
6. Computer proficiency in MSWord, Excel, and Outlook.  Familiarity with web-based application services and Internet resources.
7. Possess a comprehensive understanding of today’s world of work and its relationship to student’s academic preparation.
8. Understanding and familiarity with multiple areas of professional development pertaining to career exploration, application and interview processes, including job searching, resume and cover letter writing and interviewing techniques.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

1. Sedentary work: Frequently sits at a desk and uses a computer for counseling appointments, documentation, email, scheduling, and career-resource development.
2. Speaking and listening: Regularly communicates with students, faculty, staff, employers, and other members of the college community, both individually and in group settings.
3. Walking and standing: Periodically walks between offices, classrooms, career fairs, employer events, workshops, and other campus locations; may stand for extended periods during presentations, career fairs, or other events.
4. Reaching and handling: Occasionally reaches for files, office materials, or equipment and handles routine office supplies and technology.
5. Visual requirements: Frequently uses a computer monitor and other electronic devices and must be able to read documents, review student materials, and perform detailed computer-based work.
6. Mobility: Must be able to move throughout a college campus and access typical office, classroom, meeting, and event spaces.
7. Lifting/carrying: May occasionally lift or carry light office materials, presentation supplies, or career-event materials, generally weighing up to approximately 20 pounds.
8. Travel on behalf of the College: May occasionally travel locally or regionally for career-related events, employer visits, professional conferences, or student programming.

WORKING CONDITIONS

1. Office environment: Primarily works in an indoor, climate-controlled office setting with typical office noise and frequent use of computers, telephones, and other electronic equipment.
2. Student-facing environment: Regularly interacts with students individually and in groups, requiring frequent communication and the ability to maintain a professional and supportive environment.
3. Campus-based work: Work occurs throughout the college campus and may require movement between offices, classrooms, meeting spaces, and event locations.
4. Events and programming: May periodically work career fairs, workshops, employer events, orientation programs, and other activities that require extended periods of standing, walking, or working in busy environments.
5. Work schedule: May occasionally require evening or weekend work to accommodate student programming, career events, employer activities, or other college-sponsored events.
6. Work pace: Work may involve multiple student appointments, competing priorities, deadlines, and periods of increased activity associated with career fairs, recruiting cycles, and academic-year programming.
7. Travel: May occasionally travel to off-campus employer sites, professional conferences, career events, or other locations on behalf of the College.
8. Remote work: The position is expected to be campus-based and does not work remotely, consistent with the student-facing nature of the role.
