Phlebotomist II

The main function of a Phlebotomist II is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.

Responsibilities:

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate equipment.
• Update patient information and collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
• Explain the venipuncture process clearly and courteously, demonstrating techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
• Understand and execute all physician orders accurately.
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and ensure correct labeling and packaging for transport.
• Store specimen samples at required temperatures and place samples in appropriate collection containers or tubes.
• Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual department trainings and answer telephone inquiries, providing laboratory results as needed.

Essential Skills:

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, as required.
• Minimum of 6 months of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• 2-4 years of relevant experience.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

• Experience in pediatrics and venipuncture.

Work Environment:

The work environment includes a fast-paced lab or hospital setting where compliance with OSHA and DEP regulations is critical. The role requires the handling of specimens, operating centrifuge equipment, and maintaining a professional demeanor with patients and colleagues. Dress code and safety protocols must be followed at all times.

Job Type & Location:

This is a Contract position based out of Santa Monica, CA.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $25.16 - $25.16/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
