Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Overview

This position is for a Break Nurse working a schedule of 4 x 12 hours, totaling 48 hours per week. Overtime will be billed only after 48 hours worked in a week.

Unit Information

Labor and Delivery Beds: 34 (15 labor rooms, 12 antepartum, 4 OB ED, 3 OR)
Post-Partum Beds: 18
Patient Types: High acuity cases including hypertension, magnesium administration, cesarean sections (33% cesarean rate), preterm labor, and more.
Patient Ratios:
- 1:1 for active labor
- 1:2 for non-active laboring
- 1:2-3 for antepartum, dependent on acuity

Required Certifications

BLS
NRP
Intermediate Fetal Heart Monitoring (AWHONN)

Skills and Experience

High acuity experience in labor management and delivery of high-risk obstetric patients.
Ability to triage obstetric patients effectively.
Experience circulating in the operating room.
Proficiency in cervical checks and reading/interpreting fetal monitoring strips.
Ability to assist in receiving and recovering normal newborns when needed.
EPIC experience is required.

Support on the Unit

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) support for transports, restocking, and assisting in the OR.
Scrub Technicians available for instrument care.
Dedicated Receptionist/Healthcare Unit Coordinator (HUC).
Charge Nurse available to support patient assignments.
Resource RN availability based on staffing needs.
Respiratory Therapists available 24/7.
Laborists present around the clock.
Anesthesia support during day shifts, shared after hours.

Orientation and Scheduling

Orientation: Traditional format including hospital orientation and unit-specific training. Candidates will have 2 weeks on the unit, followed by 1 week of independent practice.
Weekend Rotation: Every other weekend with variability based on unit needs.
Holiday Expectations: Fair and equitable distribution; specific arrangements will be considered based on staff requirements.
Shift Times: 0700-1930 and 1900-0730.
Schedule Cycle: Created in 6-week increments; released 2 weeks prior to the schedule start date.

Additional Notes

Scrubs will be provided by the facility and are not to be worn outside of the premises.
Free parking is available in designated areas.
