Chemical Inventory Officer Posting Number: S14611P Working Title: Chemical Inventory Officer Department: VPR-Research Safety Location: Athens Area, UGA Campus and Satellite Campuses Posting Date: 01/16/2026 Closing Date: 02/22/2026 Type: Full Time (Employee, FTE 1.00, FLSA Exempt) Key Responsibilities Conduct periodic chemical reconciliations for all laboratories on the main UGA campus and satellite campuses, including barcoding, documentation, and ensuring data quality (70% of time). Train chemical receiving staff and laboratory personnel on inventory management best practices (15% of time). Perform routine laboratory safety assessments as assigned by supervisor and assist the chemical inspection team when needed (10% of time). Serve as a member of the hazardous materials spill response team, covering approximately one week per quarter (5% of time). Qualifications Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience. Preferred: Professional and/or technical certification relevant to the specialty; valid driver’s license in Georgia. Proven professionalism and integrity in safety and compliance roles. Leadership aptitude with a focus on customer service, safety, and compliance. Strong consensus‑building and safety negotiation skills. Ability to address complex safety and compliance problems and propose multiple solutions. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access). Knowledge of State and Federal environmental health and safety regulations and national standards. Experience with chemical and laboratory safety assessments and continuous quality improvement. Physical Demands Standard office computer use. Work in diverse environments, including laboratories, animal care facilities, and other campus locations. Perform inventory reconciliation and emergency response activities, occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs and using personal protective equipment. Stand, walk, and navigate various work locations. Benefits and Compensation Salary: Commensurate with experience. Work schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00–5:00, with occasional after‑hours and weekend work. May be included in on‑call rotation as assigned by supervisor. Eligible for employee benefits (full‑time).
