School Nurse

To provide primary health and emergency care to students, promote wellness and serve as a resource for health concerns in the school setting.

Administers medications and treatments as ordered.

Provides care for student and staff illness and accidents.

Administers care based on individual health care plans and individual emergency care plans.

Serves as liaison between the home and the school regarding student health concerns.

Documents all encounters in the Electronic Health Record.

Follows communicable disease control procedures and informs administration and/or parents regarding school exclusion and readmission.

Hold current, unrestricted, Illinois State license as a Registered Nurse, or Licensed Practical Nurse.

Current certification in CPR.

Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.

Knowledge of current practices for common childhood illnesses and chronic diseases: allergies, asthma management, diabetes, insulin pen and pumps, seizure management.

Implement the nursing process in a school-based setting and provide support for unlicensed personnel.

Ability to perform skilled nursing care such insulin administration, insulin pump skills and nebulizer treatments, inhalers, emergency medications.

Providing first aid for various issues throughout the day and notify EMS if needed.

Exceptional clinical documentation via a computer-based platform for all encounters.

Manage complex situations and triage accordingly for grades K3-12th grade including but not limited to: head injury, psychiatric needs, potential anaphylaxis, trauma.

Professing Christian with active participation in the local church body.

Baccalaureate degree in nursing or related field.

Experience in pediatric and/or community or public health nursing.

Prior experience in school nursing, or acute care setting.
