MuriPhys is a preclinical contract research organization based in Durham, North Carolina. We support therapeutic development through in vivo research, disease modeling, and laboratory studies.

We are seeking a reliable, detail-oriented Animal Care and Research Technician to support our mouse and rat colonies and ongoing preclinical studies. This position combines hands-on animal care with breeding-colony management, genotyping, and research support.

Experience handling both mice and rats, managing rodent breeding colonies, and working with genotyping workflows is required. AALAS certification and experience with injections or other in vivo procedures are preferred but not required.

• Animal care and husbandry: Perform animal health and welfare checks during assigned shifts. Check food, water levels and bottle function, bedding, enrichment, and cage condition. Complete cage changes, cleaning, and sanitation according to facility procedures.
• Breeding-colony management: Set up and monitor breeding pairs, track pregnancies and litters, identify and sex pups, coordinate weaning, and maintain accurate breeding and colony records.
• Genotyping: Collect and identify samples using approved methods, perform or coordinate genotyping workflows, track results, and update animal and colony records accurately.
• Health monitoring and documentation: Record body weights and clinical observations, recognize changes in behavior or condition, and promptly report concerns to the study team or veterinary staff.
• Study support: Assist with animal identification, handling and restraint, study preparation, sample labeling, and collection of study data. Depending on experience and training, support injections, dosing, blood collection, behavioral assessments, and other approved in vivo procedures.
• Facility operations and compliance: Maintain cage cards, care logs, sample records, and supply inventories. Follow biosecurity requirements, standard operating procedures, and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC)-approved protocols.

All animal procedures will be performed within the employee’s documented training and authorization.

• Hands-on experience handling and restraining both mice and rats in a laboratory or research setting .
• Experience with rodent breeding and colony management , including breeding setup, litter tracking, sexing, and weaning.
• Experience with genotyping workflows , including sample identification and tracking, reviewing results, and maintaining genotype records.
• Strong attention to detail, accurate recordkeeping, and a clear commitment to animal welfare.
• Ability to follow written protocols, communicate concerns promptly, and work independently on assigned tasks while coordinating with the research team.
• Availability for a dependable, on-site, part-time schedule in Durham.

• AALAS certification at the ALAT, LAT, or LATG level. Certification is a plus, not a requirement.
• Experience with in vivo procedures, such as subcutaneous, intraperitoneal, or intravenous injections, oral gavage, blood collection, or tissue collection.
• Experience with genetically modified or immunocompromised rodent colonies, anesthesia and postoperative monitoring, behavioral testing, or electronic colony-management systems.

This is a hands-on position in a rodent research facility. Work involves wearing required personal protective equipment, handling animals and cages, performing repetitive tasks, and standing or moving around the facility during assigned duties.
