And if it can be measured, it can also be realized.The Sr Mechanical Engineer is a key contributor responsible for design and analysis of mechanical systems, equipment and packaging for FARO's metrology products.This position is considered a hybrid position out of our Exton, PA office.How you will make a difference @ FARO:Key individual contributor able to work autonomously to support the design of new metrology instrument products.Support projects from concept to production in close coordination with related departments and vendors.Serve as subject matter expert in the design and tuning of servo control systems.Research and select motors, bearings, and sensors for precision axis design.Research and design power transmission mechanisms.Perform dynamic system analysis.Conduct feasibility studies of designs and concepts using engineering principles and FEA software.Perform hands-on assembly, testing and troubleshooting of prototypes to ensure design requirements are met.Develop assembly, calibration and compensation techniques.Build BOMs for manufacturing and assembly.Guide and assist operations with the creation of assembly instructions.Understand cross functional technology and interfaces within the product line.Analyze and refine high level requirements.Mentor other engineers and review their designs and analysis.Lead the mechanical engineering of subsystems and act as subsystem project lead when required.Inform stakeholders and cross functional team of new projects in a concise and professional way to convince and get commitment.Provide suggestions for product improvements at part and module level.This position requires:Precision machine design and evaluation for metrology, machine tool and robotics or similar applications.Expert level understanding of servo control system design and tuning for complex linear and rotary systems.Design using Solidworks CAD software or similar to create models and drawings.Finite element analysis (FEA) using Solidworks Simulation or ANSYS.Drawing generation in accordance with ASME Y14.5M Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).Kinematic component design.Motor and Bearing design.System error budgets and tolerance stack ups.Design and analysis of thermal management for electromechanical systems.Precision optomechanical assembly and part design for metrology applications.Dynamic system modeling using MATLAB.Experience with programming languages such as Python or C#.What FARO can offer you:A competitive paid time off bank and paid holidays.Medical, dental, life and AD&D insurance plans.Pre-tax flex spending accounts for medical and dependent care.401K with employer match.Tuition reimbursement and training opportunities.Wellness fairs.Frequent lunch and learns to help educate employees about issues affecting their lives.Other employee events.InclusiveAt FARO, we are committed to encouraging different perspectives and ideas that foster innovation.
