Critical Care Physician Assistant, Full-Time, Rotating Day/Night/Weekend Shifts

Position Overview:

Join an exciting opportunity as a Physician Assistant in the field of critical care.

The Physician Assistant (PA) is an essential member of the critical care team, primarily responsible for managing high-acuity adult patients in a multidisciplinary environment. The ICU team collaborates with various consulting specialists to deliver comprehensive critical care.

Patients may be transferred from different hospital floors or admitted directly from the Emergency Department (ED) or the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). They may present with a variety of conditions, such as diabetic ketoacidosis, stroke, renal failure, respiratory failure, sepsis, gastrointestinal bleeding, oncologic/hematologic emergencies, electrolyte imbalances, hypertensive crises, and complications from ENT, neurological, and intra-abdominal surgeries.

The PA collaborates closely with critical care intensivists, ICU hospitalists, residents, fellows, and fellow PAs to provide direct patient care in the ICU. Responsibilities include:

• Conducting physical examinations and documenting patient data.
• Performing approved diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
• Ordering and scheduling laboratory tests and consultations.
• Prescribing appropriate interventions and medications.
• Managing ICU consults in partnership with attending physicians.

The PA's role is crucial in ensuring that patients receive care that adheres to best practices.

This position involves rotating shifts, with options for day/night shifts or nights only.

Training:

The Critical Care Service line offers a comprehensive 6-month postgraduate training program focused on critical care, which includes ICU Procedural Competency and didactic courses, along with required self-study and online learning. Training will also cover essential skills such as ultrasound-guided IV placement, central line insertion, and airway management.

Clinical training may take place across multiple sites within our service line to ensure that new PA hires receive thorough and well-rounded training.

Compensation:

The expected salary range for this role is between $150,000 and $200,000 annually.

The final compensation offered will be influenced by various factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills, and professional experience.

Qualifications:

• Must be a graduate of an AMA accredited physician assistant (PA) program and hold a license from the New Jersey Board of Medical Examiners.

Additional Qualifications:

• Preferred experience in high-acuity/adult critical care.
• Experience with ultrasound IV and point-of-care ultrasound is advantageous.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, along with organizational, management, leadership, and teaching abilities.
• Must obtain Emergency Neurological Life Support (ENLS) certification within 90 days of hire.
• Must achieve Fundamental Critical Care Support (FCCS) certification within one year of hire.
