Senior Grants Accountant | San Francisco, CA | Full-Time | Hybrid

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Grants Accountant to join our Finance team. If you’re passionate about responsible financial stewardship and supporting impactful community programs, this is a great opportunity to make a difference.

Position Summary

As the Senior Grants Accountant, you will play a critical role in managing the financial operations of our grants and contracts. You will ensure compliance, timely billing, accurate reporting, and strong stewardship of funding that powers our community impact.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and submit accurate, timely grant invoices and track receivables
• Manage grant revenue recognition, month-end/year-end close processes, and reconciliations
• Ensure full compliance with federal (Uniform Guidance / 2 CFR Part 200), state, and funder requirements
• Monitor grant budgets, expenditures, and variances in partnership with program teams
• Lead grant closeout processes, including final reports and financial documentation
• Prepare journal entries, cost allocations, effort reporting, and indirect cost monitoring
• Support annual audits and funder monitoring visits
• Maintain organized grant files and documentation
• Serve as a key resource and backup for the grants accounting function

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with a strong focus on nonprofit grants accounting
• Deep knowledge of Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200) and grants compliance
• Experience with grant billing, invoicing, closeouts, and financial reporting
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems
• Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to manage multiple deadlines
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
