What Makes This Role Different?

You will absolutely spend time in the details. Accuracy matters here.

But we are not looking for someone who wants to disappear behind a spreadsheet all day.

Our Accounting team is a support function to the people running our communities, which means this role sits at the nexus of accounting and operations . You will learn how the business works while becoming a trusted resource for the leaders who depend on accurate financial information.

Your work will include:

• General ledger accounting and journal entries 
• Bank, cash, balance sheet, and fixed-asset reconciliations 
• Month-end and year-end close support 
• Financial reporting and variance research 
• Documentation, controls, and audit support 
• Working with community and corporate partners to resolve missing or inconsistent information 
• Supporting the accounting continuity and capacity required as Cardinal grows and acquires new communities 

The internal role standard emphasizes accuracy, documentation discipline, process adherence, deadline reliability, risk recognition, and progressively greater independence. 

 

We Want You to Grow Into the Role

By 90 days , you should be demonstrating a solid grasp of foundational GAAP and applying basic accounting principles accurately in your assigned work. You will also be learning Cardinal's entities, processes, controls, and expectations.

By 6 months , you should have mastered the systems and recurring workflows that drive your role. You will understand how your work fits into the close process, how Accounting supports operations, and how to research and resolve routine issues with confidence.

By 12 months , the goal is approximately 90% autonomy . You own your work. You manage your deadlines. You solve routine problems without being chased. You recognize when something looks wrong and know when to fix it yourself versus when to escalate.

That progression is directly aligned with the role's expectation of rapid learning, fewer repeated errors, decreasing supervision, and increasing accountability.

What You Bring  

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field , plus a foundational understanding of debits and credits, journal entries, general ledger accounting, reconciliations, accrual concepts, and basic financial statements. 
• Comfort in using Microsoft Excel, including formulas, formatting, sorting, and filtering. 
• Sage Intacct experience is helpful, but it is not required. 

This is intentionally an early-career opportunity. You do not need years of accounting experience to be successful here.

What matters more is whether you have the foundation, work ethic, and learning agility to become excellent at the job.
