Maintenance Technician 1st Shift

This role focuses on maintaining and repairing slicing, packaging, and press machinery used in the production of sliced fruit, cold-pressed juices, and other food products. You will perform both mechanical and electrical maintenance, support refrigeration equipment, and ensure all work meets Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards as part of a maintenance department undergoing restructuring.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on slicing, packaging, and fruit press machinery to ensure reliable and efficient production.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical components such as conveyors, belts, bearings, gears, and pumps to minimize downtime.
• Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, including single-phase and three-phase motors, fuses, relays, and circuits ranging from 120V to 480V.
• Maintain and service refrigeration equipment used in food manufacturing, ensuring safe and consistent operation.
• Use pneumatic and hydraulic knowledge to identify and resolve issues with automated and mechanical systems.
• Conduct detailed troubleshooting of equipment failures, identify root causes, and implement long-term corrective actions.
• Perform electrical troubleshooting and basic PLC troubleshooting to support automated equipment and control systems.
• Follow and uphold GMP standards at all times, including proper handling of food-contact equipment and adherence to cleanliness and safety protocols.
• Document maintenance activities, parts usage, and repairs accurately to support continuous improvement and equipment reliability.
• Collaborate with production and other maintenance team members to prioritize work orders and support smooth daily operations.
• Assist with machine building, fabrication, and equipment upgrades when needed to improve performance and reliability.
• Use personal tools safely and effectively to complete maintenance tasks in a timely manner.
• Support restructuring efforts within the maintenance department by sharing expertise, suggesting improvements, and adapting to evolving processes and procedures.

Essential Skills

• 5+ years of experience in food manufacturing environments, working with production equipment and adhering to GMP standards.
• 2+ years of experience with refrigeration systems in an industrial or food manufacturing setting.
• 3+ years of experience performing mechanical or electrical repairs on production or industrial equipment.
• 3+ years of experience as a maintenance technician with a stable work history at the same company.
• Strong mechanical repair skills, including work on conveyors, belts, bearings, gears, and pumps.
• Hands-on experience with single-phase and three-phase motors and related electrical components.
• Ability to troubleshoot electrical systems, including fuses, relays, and circuits from 120V to 480V.
• Experience working with pneumatics and hydraulics in an industrial environment.
• Proficiency in general troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration equipment.
• Demonstrated ability to work safely and effectively in a GMP-regulated food manufacturing environment.
• Capability to perform preventive maintenance and follow structured maintenance schedules.
• Experience with electrical troubleshooting and basic PLC troubleshooting to support automated machinery.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience maintaining slicers, packaging machines, and fruit presses or similar food processing equipment.
• Background in refrigeration equipment specific to food manufacturing, excluding ammonia systems.
• Exposure to machine building and fabrication (FAB), with the ability to assist in equipment modifications or custom builds.
• Hands-on experience working in clean, organized production environments.
• Comfort working in a family-oriented company culture that values reliability and teamwork.
• Ability to bring and effectively use personal tools required for maintenance work.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Willingness to work overtime when needed to support production demands and maintenance projects.

Work Environment

This is a 1st shift position, working Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with overtime available as needed. The facility operates under strict GMP standards, requiring the use of hair nets, beard nets where applicable, smocks, steel-toe footwear, and safety glasses while on the production floor. The environment is clean, organized, and focused on food safety, with no ammonia-based refrigeration systems in use. You will work around slicing, packaging, and fruit press equipment, as well as conveyors, motors, and refrigeration units. Technicians are expected to provide and use their own tools, and to adhere to all safety and cleanliness protocols while working in a fast-paced production setting.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Milwaukee, WI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $58240.00 - $83200.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
