IT Help Desk Paid Intern

Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens is hiring a IT Help Desk Paid Intern! Are you interested in getting into the IT field and looking to gain experience? The IT Help Desk Intern will support the IT Specialist in managing all IT requests. This includes receiving, prioritizing, documenting, scheduling, resolving, or escalating IT requests. Problem resolution may involve the use of diagnostic and help‑request tracking tools and/or require that the individual give in‑person, hands‑on help at the desktop level. In addition to day‑to‑day support, the intern may assist with special IT projects, such as process development and improvement initiatives, documentation enhancements, or technology rollouts, as assigned. This person exercises judgment and creativity in selecting and applying procedures correctly and determines when to refer problems to the supervisor or next level of support. This is a Seasonal, Full‑time (40 hours per week) internship for summer 2026. Start and end dates are flexible. Occasional weekend work is required. $18.00 hourly, non‑exempt. The internship program at Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens includes experiential learning through a project guided by your supervisor, full day immersion sessions cross departmentally, group field trips, networking with interns across Maine, and opportunities to gain exposure to roles and responsibilities in various public garden departments. The IT Help Desk Intern will participate in parts of the full intern programming. They will work with their supervisor to determine which components of the intern program are most relevant and most interesting to them. Primary Functions Field incoming IT requests from users via phone, email, and SharePoint. Document all pertinent end‑user identification information, including name, department, contact information, and nature of the problem or project. Prioritize and schedule requests and projects. Escalate problems to the IT Specialist. Record, track, and document IT requests, including all successful and unsuccessful decisions made and actions taken, through to final resolution. Perform hands‑on fixes and maintenance at the desktop level, including password resets, installing updates, installing some hardware, and assisting in events and class setup as requested through events calendar. Perform post‑resolution follow‑ups to IT requests. Develop workflows and departmental processes to ensure requests and projects are addressed in a timely manner. Help build and maintain the IT knowledge base by writing instructions and maintaining documents. Help build and maintain IT hardware and software lists, policies, and procedures. Physical Requirements The work is performed primarily but not exclusively indoors in a moderate noise environment. The work requires the ability to sit, stand, walk between buildings, squat, kneel, climb stairs, carry up to 35 pounds occasionally and use hands/fingers for fine manipulation. Requirements High school graduate or equivalent with data processing training, computer operations training, or experience in a multi‑operation system or production control environment preferred. Exceptional written and oral communication skills. Exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills, with a focus on rapport‑building, listening, and questioning skills. Ability to conduct research into a wide range of issues as required. Proven analytical and problem‑solving abilities. Attention to detail and ability to absorb and retain information quickly.
