Job Title: Registered Nurse - Emergency Department Profession: RN Specialty: RN - Emergency Duration: 8 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum years of experience preferred License: Registered Nurse licensure in the state of practice Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Must-Have: EPIC experience Description: The Registered Nurse assumes responsibility and accountability for a group of patients for a designated shift. Prescribes nursing care based on the nursing process that is consistent with the medical plan of care. Collaborates with physicians and other members of the health care team. Coordinates the delivery of patient care to patients of all ages. Incorporates teaching and discharge planning needs into the overall plan of care. Delegates certain aspects of patient care delivery to other nursing staff based on their clinical competence and legal scope of practice. The position is represented by a nursing association. Education and Work Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred. Acute care facility experience preferred. Licenses/Certifications: Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of practice. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required at time of hire. Demonstrated competency in Dysrhythmia during orientation required for all departments except for Obstetrics and NICU. Completion of Critical Care Course within 1 year of hire and demonstrated competency in IV Sedation within 6 months of hire required for Critical Care Units. Neonatal Resuscitation certification within 6 months of hire required for Labor & Delivery, Obstetrics, and NICU departments. PALS certification within 1 year of hire required for PACU/SDS. Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification required within 1 year of hire. Essential Functions: Utilizes the nursing process to assess patients and implement an individualized plan of care. Evaluates the effectiveness of the plan, the patient's response, and progress towards established goals. Collaborates with other disciplines to formulate the plan of care for patients. Applies knowledge of illnesses, injuries, diseases, and developmental stages to the delivery of patient care. Utilizes knowledge of pharmacology when preparing and administering medications and IV therapy. Provides patient and family education throughout all phases of care delivery. Assesses knowledge and plans appropriate learning activities tailored to patients' age and unique needs. Responds to emergency patient situations and follows established protocols. Oversees the delivery of patient care and ensures patient safety and well-being. Reports observations, reactions, and problems regarding patients in a timely manner. Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for problem-solving and clinical decision-making. Ensures continuity of care by processing and following through on physician's orders. Demonstrates an ability to set appropriate priorities in providing patient care. Acts as the patient's advocate, ensuring patient rights are preserved. Demonstrates knowledge of job descriptions and delegates to nursing assistants and student nurses appropriately. Maintains awareness of professional responsibilities and legal scope of practice. Utilizes communication skills effectively with patients, families, staff, and coworkers. Documents assessments, interventions, and care provided to all assigned patients. Performs technical aspects of patient care according to established policies and procedures. Prepares and administers medications and IVs to patients with consideration of age-specific needs. Performs emergency procedures and assesses patient response. Demonstrates safe use of medical equipment and devices. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
