Associate Director / Principal Research Scientist II, Precision Medicine Immunology

AbbVie's Precision Medicine Immunology group seeks an experienced translational and biomarker scientist to lead precision medicine strategy and execution across the immunology clinical development portfolio. The role encompasses biomarker development, cross-functional team leadership, regulatory documentation, and scientific collaboration in a matrixed environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and implementation of translational and biomarker strategies for clinical programs across development stages
• Oversee design, conduct, interpretation, and reporting of biomarker activities aligned with development and regulatory strategies
• Lead asset-specific translational projects and teams in a matrixed organizational environment
• Author and review translational medicine components of development plans, protocols, study reports, and regulatory submissions
• Partner with operations, medical affairs, and key opinion leaders to coordinate sample management, assay validation, and scientific collaborations

Requirements

• PhD, PharmD, or MD with 6+ years pharmaceutical industry experience, or MS with 8+ years equivalent experience
• Strong scientific background in immunology with relevant publication record
• Demonstrated leadership in translational science and biomarker development (pharmacodynamic, predictive, exploratory)
• Experience with assay development: ligand-binding assays, IHC/IF, gene expression profiling, or flow cytometry
• Knowledge of clinical trial methodology, protocol design, and regulatory requirements for clinical development
• Familiarity with data management and visualization tools; ability to collaborate with computational biologists
• Expertise in rheumatology highly desirable; excellent communication and organizational skills essential
