ICU Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled ICU Registered Nurse to deliver high-quality care in a neuro-intensive unit. The ideal candidate will possess clinical expertise and demonstrate a commitment to patient-centered practices.

Essential Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive care for patients with neurological conditions, including ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, seizure disorders, and post-operative care following craniotomies and complex spinal surgeries.
• Monitor patients' vital signs and neurological status, utilizing advanced technologies such as intracranial pressure monitoring, cerebral oximetry, and EEG.
• Administer continuous sedation, vasopressors, and medications as prescribed.
• Collaborate with the healthcare team to implement care plans and ensure optimal patient outcomes.
• Utilize electronic health record systems (EPIC) to document patient information accurately.
• Communicate effectively with patients and families, providing education and support.

Qualifications

• Licensure: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Certifications: ACLS, BCLS, and NIH Stroke Certification required.
• Preferred Certifications: CCRN certification is highly desirable.
• Prior experience in an ICU setting is recommended, particularly with neuro patients.
• The unit accepts first-time travelers.

Shift Information

This position requires working three 12-hour night shifts per week (19:00 - 07:00). There are no block schedules.

Call Requirements

Core staff will be placed on call first, with the possibility of agency staff being utilized as needed.

Holiday Requirements

Travelers are expected to work holiday shifts consistent with the following policy:

• If one major holiday falls within the assignment period, the traveler is expected to work it.
• If two major holidays occur during the assignment, the traveler is expected to work both.
• If three major holidays fall within the assignment, the traveler must work two of those holidays.

Major holidays include Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve/New Year's Day.

Unit Details

• Intracranial pressure monitoring
• Continuous sedation protocols
• Administration of continuous vasopressors or vasodilators
• Management of external ventricular drains and ventilators
• Presence of EEG technicians stationed on the unit
• CT scanner available on the unit

Compliance and Orientation

Full compliance with credentialing requirements is mandatory prior to the start date. Failure to meet compliance deadlines may result in a delay of up to two weeks due to the bi-weekly orientation schedule.

Other Information

This position does not include block scheduling and requires traveling staff to be flexible to float as necessary within the unit.
