Physician Assistant (PA-C) – General & Acute Care Surgery

Location: Bergen County, New Jersey
Salary: $130,000–$150,000 | Full-Time

We are seeking a motivated Physician Assistant (PA-C) to join a growing private general and acute care surgical practice in Bergen County, New Jersey.

This is a rare opportunity to work closely with one experienced attending surgeon and learn the full spectrum of general surgery . From the initial surgical consultation through the operating room, inpatient care, and postoperative follow-up, you will be involved throughout the entire patient journey.

With no residents competing for operative cases , you will receive significant hands-on exposure and have the opportunity to develop into a highly skilled, confident surgical PA.

This position is designed for a PA who wants to become exceptionally well-rounded in general surgery.

You will work side-by-side with an experienced attending surgeon, allowing you to develop a close mentorship relationship and progressively take on greater responsibility as your skills and confidence grow.

You’ll gain exposure to:

• General surgery

• Acute care and emergency surgery

• Laparoscopic procedures

• Robotic surgery

• Elective surgical cases

• Inpatient surgical consultations

• Perioperative management

• Postoperative care

• Outpatient surgical follow-up

Rather than being limited to one aspect of patient care, you will have the opportunity to see and participate in the entire surgical process .

As a key member of the surgical team, you will:

• Serve as the primary first assistant for major and minor general surgical procedures

• Assist with laparoscopic, robotic, elective, and acute care cases

• Evaluate and round on postoperative patients in the hospital

• Participate in inpatient surgical consultations

• Assist with perioperative patient management

• Conduct postoperative and surgical follow-up visits in the office

• Develop strong relationships with patients throughout their surgical care

• Work directly with the attending surgeon to develop your clinical and operative skills

• Gradually assume increasing autonomy and responsibility as experience is gained

• Monday–Friday schedule

• Elective surgery, inpatient rounding, consultations, and office hours

• Approximately 1 week of call every 5 weeks

• Non-call weeks are focused primarily on elective surgery and office responsibilities

• Weekend, evening, and holiday responsibilities occur only during scheduled call weeks

$130,000–$150,000 annual starting salary for Years 1–2 , depending on experience and qualifications.

• Pascack Valley Medical Center – Westwood, NJ

• Atlantic Health Chilton Medical Center – Pompton Plains, NJ

• Emerson, NJ

• Oakland, NJ

• Teaneck, NJ

• Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program

• NCCPA certification

• Current or eligible New Jersey PA license

• Surgical experience preferred; 1–2 years is ideal

• Strong interest in general and acute care surgery

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Willingness to learn, take initiative, and progressively develop surgical independence
