Overview The State of Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) seeks dedicated, certified law enforcement professionals to join our Safety Services Division as Police Officers. Police Officers at DMHAS exercise full police powers and carry comprehensive law‑enforcement responsibilities across multiple campuses, ensuring the safety, security, and well‑being of staff, clients, and visitors while supporting a therapeutic environment. Position Highlights Schedule: Every other weekend off Hours: Full‑time, 40 hours per week Available shifts: First, second, and third shift opportunities Hazardous duty Locations: Blue Hills Hospital, Capitol Region Mental Health Center, Connecticut Mental Health Center, Connecticut Valley Hospital, River Valley Services, Southwest Connecticut Mental Health System, Whiting Forensic Hospital Responsibilities Security Provide crowd control at events and activities Monitor designated areas for theft, trespassing, vandalism, and regulatory violations Give directions and routine information to the public Participate in evacuation activities for fire, bomb threats, or other potential disasters Operate firefighting apparatus when required Conduct cruiser, foot, and bicycle patrols Protection Provide traffic and crowd control Make timely arrangements for additional assistance Gather background information and provide threat assessments for high‑risk locations Respond to emergencies and provide CPR or first aid as needed Transport or escort couriers with currency, prisoners, or AWOL persons Assist in search for escaped patients or inmates Collaborate with State Police on investigations of major criminal acts Maintain building security and perform patrol duties during heightened alert conditions Enforcement Direct traffic and enforce motor vehicle and parking regulations Initiate and conduct criminal investigations of violations and suspicious activities Conduct on‑site investigations, question witnesses, arrest individuals, and issue summonses Administration Record information and process paperwork on arrests and activity reports Apply for and serve arrest warrants Arrange surety and non‑surety bond payments or written promises to appear Provide court testimony Conduct special programs, projects, and services as required Process arrested individuals, including fingerprinting, photographing, and transportation to lock‑up Conduct safety training, certification, and recertification courses Maintain minor equipment repairs and provide public presentations on crime prevention and safety Serve as dispatcher as needed Special Department Duties Enforce gaming regulations for the Connecticut Lottery Corporation Assist Conservation Enforcement Officers with fish, wildlife, park, and boating regulations Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of police and security practices, relevant state and federal laws, traffic and crowd control procedures, and criminal court procedures Considerable interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills Ability to analyze emergency situations and develop effective courses of action Proficiency with computer software Qualifications Certification as a law‑enforcement officer in Connecticut (or pending certification status with temporary employment until certification) Successful completion of prescribed training and probationary requirements for Protective Services Trainees Valid Connecticut driver’s license Eligibility and qualification to bear arms Ability to obtain and retain Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification Physical fitness assessment required; must meet health and strength standards Acceptance of travel and flexible schedule as needed Legal Notice The State of Connecticut is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer and strongly encourages the applications of women, minorities, and persons with disabilities. #J-18808-Ljbffr State of Connecticut
