Staff Pharmacist - Long-Term Care Pharmacy
Location: Ankeny, IA Setting: Closed-Door Long-Term Care Pharmacy Compensation: $130,000-$140,000 annually
Schedule - 7 On / 7 Off Nights
Wednesday - Tuesday Rotation
- Wed, Thu, Fri, Mon, Tue: 3:00 PM - 2:00 AM
- On-Call: 2:00 AM - 6:00 AM
- Saturday: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM
- On-Call: Overnight
- Sunday: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM
- On-Call until 6:00 AM Monday
- One full week off between rotations
Position Overview
We are seeking a licensed Staff Pharmacist to join a high-volume Long-Term Care pharmacy serving skilled nursing and assisted living facilities. This role is responsible for prescription verification, order entry, cycle-fill review, fulfillment oversight, and after-hours pharmacist coverage.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, clinically sound, and comfortable working in a fast-paced closed-door pharmacy environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Verify prescriptions for accuracy, legality, and clinical appropriateness
- Perform PV1 and PV2 verification
- Complete order entry and cycle-fill reviews
- Support medication fulfillment and dispensing operations
- Ensure compliance with all Federal and State Board of Pharmacy regulations
- Provide pharmacist on-call coverage during assigned shifts
- Respond to medication-related questions from healthcare providers and facility staff
- Monitor medication inventory and assist with product sourcing when needed
- Document and report medication errors or discrepancies
- Supervise pharmacy technicians and support workflow efficiency
Qualifications
- PharmD or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy
- Active Iowa Pharmacist License in good standing
- 1+ year of pharmacist experience preferred
- Long-Term Care, Retail, Hospital, or Closed-Door Pharmacy experience considered
- Strong attention to detail and clinical judgment
- Ability to work independently and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Pharmacy software and order-entry experience preferred
