Assistant General Manager

Ozumo, San Francisco's iconic, contemporary Japanese fine dining restaurant, featuring sushi, robata and izakaya dining, is seeking a Assistant General Manager (AGM) to join our team. Our ideal candidate is someone who is passionate about Japanese cuisine and possesses a strong knowledge of sake, wine and spirits. We are looking for someone who enjoys hospitality and is dedicated to providing an exceptional experience for our guests. Qualified applicants will possess a minimum of three years of management experience in a fine dining restaurant.

The Assistant General Manager will be primarily responsible to oversee restaurant operations. Responsibilities include training & developing waitstaff, managing host team, supporting bartenders and overseeing runners and bussers, to make sure food and drink are delivered timely and acurately. The AGM will provide floor presence by interacting with guests and building relationships to ensure repeat visits. Duties will include scheduling, editing payroll, placing orders and processing invoices. We are looking for someone who is organized, professional and can provide effective leadership for our team. We desire a person who is upbeat, charismatic and engaging with our guests. The AGM is required to maintain the highest standards of food, service, health and safety and ensure the efficient and profitable business performance of the restaurant.

Key Responsibilities:

• Be an effective leader and inspirational role model for staff.
• Build clientele by working the room and developing strong relationships with guests and the community.
• Take responsibility for the successful operation of the business by building revenues and controlling expenses.
• Ensure that the restaurant is properly staffed through effective scheduling.
• Train and develop staff to perform their jobs.
• Ensure that policies, procedures, standards, specifications and guidelines are adhered to.
• Provide a positive and safe work environment.
• Maintain the highest standards of food safety, sanitation and cleanliness.
• Provide training on the items we serve to ensure the service team is well prepared to perform their duties.
• Monitor staffing to make sure time punches are accurate and meal / rest breaks are taken.
• Manage shifts to a standard of excellence by monitoring product quality, service, cleanliness and ambiance (sound, lighting, temperature).
• Conduct inventories and place orders. Participate in the development of our cocktail programs and the cultivation of wine, spirits and beer offerings.
• Be knowledgeable of state employment policies regarding personnel and administer prompt, fair and consistent corrective action for any and all violations of company policies, rules and procedures.
• Coach and counsel staff behavior by clearly outlining expectations and communicating via verbal and written documentation when correction is needed.
• Interview, onboard, train, supervise and develop employees to be successful.

Position Qualifications:

• 3 years Management experience in a fine dining restaurant
• Sufficient knowledge of Japanese cuisine, wines, spirits and beers.
• Strong leadership, organization and communication (written and verbal) skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Drive, Word & Excel
• Experience with Toast, Paylocity, 7Shifts and Margin Edge preferred.
• Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time.
• Ability to lift 50+lbs'
