Job Summary: Provide essential clinical support in the operating room by assisting anesthesia providers, surgeons, and team members with procedural tasks. Ensure adherence to established standards for instrument processing, including cleaning, decontamination, and sterilization, following recognized guidelines such as AMMI, AORN, and AST.

Essential Responsibilities

• Assist with procedural needs and prioritize tasks as directed by leadership.
• Monitor and maintain surgical instruments and equipment to ensure proper sterilization and readiness.
• Adjust work schedule flexibly to meet fluctuating department activity levels.
• Use supplies judiciously to support quality patient care.
• Collaborate with registered nurses to obtain specialized supplies promptly without compromising care quality.
• Respond effectively to unexpected changes during procedures and support intraoperative planning.
• Work closely with the surgical team to update preference cards and instrument sets as technology evolves.
• Promote teamwork by accepting and delegating tasks appropriately.

• Coordinate with healthcare providers to prepare instrument and supply setups before cases.
• Maintain a professional, quiet environment and manage stress during high-demand situations.

Patient Safety

• Ensure thorough cleaning and sterilization of all surgical instruments and equipment.
• Plan and prepare for surgeries based on individual patient needs, adapting to ongoing changes.
• Adhere strictly to HIPAA regulations and social media policies.
• Verify medications and supplies passed to the sterile field using a double-check system.
• Report any breaches in sterile technique or patient care protocols promptly.

Professional Development

• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of anatomy and surgical instruments.
• Share expertise through orientation, cross-training, and mentoring peers and new staff.

Education and Certification

• Current certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the appropriate state board.

Work Schedule

Part-time, approximately 24 hours weekly, primarily first shift with on-call requirements.

This position is located in a regional healthcare facility serving the Midwest area of the United States.
