Traveling General Superintendent- Aviation

Overview The Traveling General Superintendent – Aviation at JE Dunn Construction will develop and execute the project plan and oversee all aspects of assigned projects with significant complexity. This role is responsible for managing the project team, planning construction sequencing and achieving project goals, in support of JE Dunn’s strategy, vision and values. The position reports to the National Aviation Vertical and requires 100% travel to project sites in the United States. Key responsibilities – Core Leads all aspects of the company’s safety culture and promotes an injury-free environment through personal action and mentoring others. Investigates safety incidents and retrains staff as needed. Manages subcontractors and organizes the overall job and workflow. Oversees company staff, subcontractors, suppliers and programs such as Safety, Quality and EEO for small projects or a major portion of a larger project. Develops work plans for subcontractors and self-performed work. Coordinates and manages care, custody and control of the project site. Leads meetings including daily standups and weekly trade meetings; participates in progress and/or project OAC meetings. Creates, manages and updates the project schedule in collaboration with the Project Manager. Monitors project budget and costs using the project management system and PM data. Communicates key project information to owners, design team, authorities, subcontractors, suppliers and other departments. Maintains project documentation, including drawings, logs, diaries and inspection notebooks. Records unit cost information for weekly reports and completes daily and tracking reports. Evaluates progress on self-perform work and adjusts as needed. Manages material and equipment needs for the project. Supports procurement processes (Material and Other Costs) and Dunn Logistics Service Center approvals. Assists in selecting formwork, tools and equipment for self-perform operations. Manages timecard approval to ensure accurate hours and cost codes. Ensures quality compliance through specifications, QA/QC and external resources. Supports project closeouts by supervising pre-punch activities and coordinating with the owner, architect and authorities. Participates in project pursuit and pre-planning processes; implements and adjusts throughout the project lifecycle. Partners with field leadership to determine field staffing for their project. Collaborates with project management to identify schedule and cost implications of project changes and negotiate with owners/architects when needed. Participates in project reviews, including the monthly review process and other key meetings; participates in buyout meetings with subcontractors and vendors. Understands and applies terms and conditions of owner and subcontractor contracts. Responsible for identifying and recruiting top talent; leads and promotes a culture of diversity and inclusion; adheres to JE Dunn’s non-discrimination policy. Proficiency in MS Office (Intermediate). Fundamentals of construction management methods and project processes. Ability to build relationships across teams and with external partners. Proficiency in project management and accounting software (Intermediate). Proficiency in JE Dunn construction technology (Advanced). Proficiency in scheduling software (Intermediate). Knowledge of Lean processes and philosophy (Intermediate). Knowledge of trades and scopes of work (Advanced). Knowledge of self-perform and labor productivity (Advanced). Ability to manage budgets, maximize profitability and build future business through relationships (Advanced). Understanding of document changes and their impact on project schedules. Knowledge of layout, crane flagging and rigging, productivity rates and cost management (Advanced). Ability to collaborate effectively within a team, internally and externally. Education Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering or related field (Preferred). In lieu of the above, equivalent relevant experience will be considered. Experience 12+ years of construction experience. 10+ years of field supervision experience. Experience leading Lean principles on projects (Preferred).
