Open Until Filled The Contra Costa County Library is seeking to fill two part-time positions for Library Literacy Assistant. Position Description Library Literacy Assistants will assist with volunteer recruitment, training and support activities, provide program information, and promote library literacy programs through various media. Responsibilities Recruit and train volunteers. Conduct student intake interviews. Recommend appropriate methods and materials to tutors. Maintain records and gather data. Assist with special events. Contribute to newsletters. Oversee the library literacy lab. Represent library literacy programs at meetings. Qualifications Valid California Motor Vehicle Operator’s License. Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university with a major in education, speech pathology and audiology, psychology, communications, humanities, social science or behavioral science field or 200 hours of previous tutoring experience and either 60 semester or 90 quarter units from an accredited college or university or certification as a teacher. Ability to relate positively with multicultural communities. Ability to plan, organize, and work independently. Effective communication skills in verbal and written form. Ability to establish harmonious working relationships with staff, volunteers, community groups and representatives. Teaching experience highly desirable. Availability to work at least one night per week and approximately 13 Saturdays per year. Professional Growth Library Literacy Assistants may promote, via competitive examination, to Senior Library Literacy Assistant (Monthly Salary $3,941 - $5,033).
