Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for an Accountant Technician 1 position for the Office of Information Technology (OIT). Reporting to the Director of Administrative and Financial Services, this position’s primary responsibilities include budget development and management, assisting departments and cost centers with their financial needs, assisting the director team with reporting and handling specialized reporting requests, and accounting and billing for the new and growing recharge centers.

Duties include but are not limited to:

• Purchasing of equipment, materials, and services for the department.
• Receiving, reviewing, tracking and processing of department journals.
• Managing OIT recharge centers billing, communications, budgets, and preparation of yearly recharge rate packets;
• Preparation of budget adjustments.
• Developing reports for OIT departments on funding status, levels, and projections.
• Ensuring compliant spending.
• Managing and maintaining student wage allocations.
• Maintaining costing allocations.

In addition to the above fiscal duties, this position will assist with the OIT Business Office human resource activities. This includes assisting with new faculty, staff, and student hires, on and offboarding process of employees, ensuring classified work performance standards, and evaluations are completed, and responding to first line employee questions and employee relations issues.

The ideal candidate should provide pleasant, efficient, and effective customer service. They must be able to manage multiple tasks and priorities with consistency and continuity in a fast-paced environment despite frequent interruptions. They must interact well with diverse personalities, individuals from various backgrounds, and convey genuine interest and a desire to be helpful in resolving issues in a manner which is satisfactory to everyone involved.

Required Qualifications

• Graduation from high school and two (2) years of financial records maintenance experience which included such duties as controlling accounts payable/receivable; preparing financial reports for internal management use; and reconciling complex accounts; OR
• Two (2) years of experience as an Accounting Assistant III in Nevada State service; OR
• One (1) year as an Accounting Assistant IV in Nevada State service; OR
• An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

Schedule

The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs.

Compensation Grade

Grade 30

In classified service, salary is in Grade and Step. The Step is determined based on the Nevada Administrative Code. Salary placement above a Step 01 at initial appointment is determined based on the recruitment, the candidate’s qualifications, internal equity and budgets. A request to accelerate salary must be approved by Human Resources and abide by the Nevada Administrative Code.
