Sustainability Consulting Team - Data and GHG Accounting Analyst II

I. Job Summary WM Advisory Services is seeking a sustainability-focused Data Analyst II to own defined data and greenhouse gas (GHG) accounting workstreams across customer engagements. The role combines advanced data management, data visualization, process development, and analytical quality control with applied expertise in the GHG Protocol and emerging climate disclosure requirements. The Analyst II works with project teams and customers to establish defensible measurement boundaries, design practical data collection strategies, engage data owners and other stakeholders, calculate and quality-check emissions, prepare documentation and evidence for customer review or third-party verification, and translate results into clear dashboards, insights, and actionable decarbonization strategies. The role supports multiple concurrent projects with increasing independence and helps improve the repeatability, accuracy, and scalability of Advisory Services data products and delivery processes. II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Own defined data collection, management, analysis, and reporting workstreams from planning through customer-ready delivery with minimal supervision. Apply the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard and relevant Scope 2 and Scope 3 guidance to help establish organizational and operational boundaries, identify applicable emissions sources, document exclusions, and maintain a defensible calculation methodology. Help customers translate measurement objectives into practical collection strategies, including source mapping, data-owner identification, request templates, collection schedules, evidence requirements, and escalation paths. Coordinate with customer stakeholders, suppliers, utilities, internal WM teams, and other data owners to request information, clarify assumptions, resolve gaps, and document decisions. Collect, clean, reconcile, transform, and organize large or complex datasets from multiple formats and systems while maintaining traceability to source records. Develop and maintain repeatable data workflows, calculation models, file structures, data dictionaries, process documentation, QA/QC checks, and version-control practices. Calculate Scope 1, Scope 2, and relevant Scope 3 emissions using approved emission factors, unit conversions, estimation methods, and calculation tools; clearly document sources, assumptions, limitations, and methodology changes. Assess data completeness, accuracy, consistency, and representativeness; identify anomalies and gaps, recommend resolution approaches, and escalate material risks to project leadership. Perform research and benchmarking on GHG accounting methods, emissions factors, reporting frameworks, sector practices, and decarbonization solutions to inform analyses and recommendations. Analyze inventory results to identify material emissions sources, trends, drivers, and reduction opportunities; connect findings to practical, prioritized customer decarbonization strategies. Prepare customer-ready tables, inventories, data visualizations, dashboards, reports, presentations, and methodology documentation that translate complex data into clear conclusions, decisions, and next steps. Support customer meetings by preparing data requests and materials, presenting analytical findings with increasing independence, capturing decisions, and completing follow-up actions. Manage timelines, dependencies, and deliverables for assigned workstreams; anticipate project needs, communicate progress, and flag risks or delays with recommended paths forward. Identify and implement improvements to templates, workflows, automation opportunities, and reporting structures that increase efficiency, scalability, and consistency across projects. Maintain organized project files and records that support continuity, auditability, customer review, and compliance with WM Advisory Services standards. Support customer third-party verification processes by organizing source records, preparing evidence packages, responding to data and methodology questions, and documenting changes or corrective actions. Maintain current knowledge of GHG accounting, sustainability reporting, data management, emissions-factor developments, decarbonization practices, and mandatory climate disclosure or GHG reporting regulations, including emerging requirements such as California SB 253. Evaluate and responsibly incorporate AI-enabled tools and automation into materials management workflows, templates, analysis, and documentation to improve efficiency, consistency, and scalability while maintaining appropriate quality controls. Ensure compliance with customer and government requirements when conducting assessments or supporting on-site work; promote a culture of safety and perform other duties as assigned.

III. Qualifications Must live and work in the U.S. A. Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree (accredited) in Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Sustainability, Business or related field High School Diploma or GED (accredited) and four years of relevant experience 2 years of relevant work experience in data analytics, dashboarding or data visualization, environmental consulting, GHG accounting, sustainability reporting, business analysis, regulatory research, or related work (in addition to education requirement) Experience managing, cleaning, reconciling, and analyzing multi-source datasets and documenting repeatable data processes Experience conducting or supporting organizational GHG inventories in accordance with the GHG Protocol B. Preferred Qualifications Experience developing calculation models, QA/QC procedures, data collection tools, dashboards, or customer-ready analytical outputs Experience engaging customer or internal stakeholders to collect data, resolve quality issues, and communicate analytical findings Experience preparing documentation, source records, or evidence packages to support customer assurance, audit, or third-party verification processes IV. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Advanced Excel skills, including complex formulas, lookups, pivot tables, data validation, structured tables, and quality-control techniques. Strong data management skills, including data cleaning, reconciliation, transformation, documentation, file organization, and version control. Working knowledge of relational data concepts, data visualization, dashboard development, and repeatable analytical workflows; experience with Power Query, Power BI, SQL, Python, or comparable tools preferred. Applied understanding of the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard and the principles used to define inventory boundaries, categorize Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 sources, and document calculation methods. Ability to select and apply appropriate activity data, emission factors, unit conversions, estimation approaches, and quality checks for GHG calculations. Ability to evaluate data quality, identify anomalies and gaps, document assumptions and limitations, and develop practical resolution strategies. Ability to translate complex data and GHG inventory results into clear, actionable insights and decarbonization recommendations for customers. Ability to design practical data collection strategies and communicate clearly with data owners, suppliers, customers, and project teams. Strong analytical judgment, attention to detail, problem solving, and commitment to defensible methodologies and customer-ready quality. Ability to prepare organized, traceable documentation and evidence to support customer audit, assurance, and third-party verification processes. Ability to own defined workstreams, manage multiple priorities, anticipate needs, and communicate risks and progress with minimal supervision. Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare concise technical documentation and present findings to varied audiences. Interest in developing deeper subject matter expertise in GHG accounting, emissions reduction, sustainability data systems, climate disclosure, and customer decarbonization strategy. Working knowledge of mandatory climate disclosure and GHG reporting requirements, including the ability to track regulatory developments such as California SB 253 and assess implications for customer data collection, reporting, and methodology needs. High proficiency with Microsoft Office and adaptability to new software, data platforms, and emissions-management systems. Familiarity with AI-enabled tools and willingness to incorporate them responsibly into workflows to improve efficiency, consistency, data organization, and materials management process documentation. Self-motivated and able to deliver results while working remotely, in an office, or at a customer site. Ability to travel up to 35%, including trips of up to two weeks at a time.

This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific salary offered to a successful candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s relevant experience, education, training, certifications, qualifications, and work location.
