Job Description
Sterile Processing Supervisor

We are seeking a dedicated Sterile Processing Supervisor to oversee the efficient operation of our Sterile Processing Department (SPD). The ideal candidate will have significant experience in sterile processing, along with prior leadership experience, to manage a team and ensure the highest standards of instrument sterilization and distribution.

Role Responsibilities

• Supervision and Leadership (30%):
  
  
  • Directly supervise Lead Technicians, Technicians I, II, III, and Non-Certified Technicians across all SPD work areas.
  • Assign daily tasks based on workload, case volume, and departmental priorities.
  • Oversee instrument tracking systems, maintain documentation accuracy, and manage inventory control.
  • Collaborate with Educator/Manager on training and orientation plans.
• Department Advancement and Expectations (30%):
  
  
  • Coordinate daily SPD operations to align with surgical and procedural case demands.
  • Monitor turnaround times for instrument trays, instrument availability, and readiness of case carts.
  • Troubleshoot equipment, instrument, and workflow issues as they arise.
  • Ensure proper segregation of clean and dirty workflows while adhering to infection prevention practices.
  • Maintain compliance with AAMI ST79, AORN guidelines, CDC recommendations, and regulatory standards.
• Coordination and Management of Specialty Services (30%):
  
  
  • Audit assembly accuracy of trays, count sheets, peel packs, and labeling requirements.
  • Address and resolve service concerns, implementing service recovery as necessary.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary meetings focused on instrumentation, workflow, and quality initiatives.
• Sterile Processing Duties (10%):
  
  
  • Monitor adherence to infection control, safety protocols, and universal precautions.
  • Organize, store, and distribute instruments, trays, and equipment to ensure their availability.
  • Prepare instrument trays and equipment for sterilization processes.
  • Conduct decontamination and sterilization of instruments, medical supplies, and equipment.

Qualifications

• A minimum of three (3) years of experience in sterile processing.
• Prior leadership experience is required.
• Familiarity with electronic instrument tracking systems is preferred.
• National Certifications: Certified Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) and/or Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) - Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) are required.
• BLS certification is not required.
• Experience within a Level 1 Trauma center is a must.
• Knowledge of sterilization, decontamination, and assembly/wrapping for sterile processing is essential.
• Preferred experience includes neuro, GU, robotics, ENT, orthopedic, transplant, and GYN cases.

Additional Information

• Local candidates are accepted on a case-by-case basis.
• All requests for time off (RTO) must be provided at the time of application and will not be approved after the contract is signed.
• The facility may call off one shift for every two weeks, ensuring that guaranteed hours are maintained.
