POSITION DETAILS

The STAR (Scheduling, Testing, Advisement, Registration) Center at New York City College of Technology (City Tech), a comprehensive college of the City University of New York (CUNY) in downtown Brooklyn offering associate and baccalaureate degrees, is accepting applications for an Onboarding Senior Advisor to join the team. The Onboarding Senior Advisor provides high-level academic advisement and support to prospective, new, continuing, and undeclared students, with a focus on onboarding, retention, and successful transition into college. The Senior Advisor administers key onboarding processes, provides supervision and guidance to part-time staff, and ensures that students receive comprehensive support to meet academic and institutional requirements. Reporting to the Director of the STAR Center, the responsibilities of the Onboarding Senior Advisor will include but not be limited to: Provide advisement to prospective, new, continuing, and undeclared students on registration, proficiency standards, permits, Math Start, CUNY Start, CUNY Language Immersion Program (CLIP), and First Year Programs (FYP). Administer referrals to supplemental student services including the Learning Center, Counseling Services Center, and other accommodations to ensure a holistic onboarding experience. Guide students through the course registration process; meet with new students both in person and virtually to complete registration using Schedule Builder, DegreeWorks, and the Financial Aid Eligibility & Certification Tracking System (FACTS). Facilitate cross-registration with other departments and support interdepartmental collaboration to resolve enrollment-related issues. Ensure proactive and systematic engagement with first-year students via one-on-one meetings, phone calls, text messaging, and email; identify potential barriers early and implement solutions. Maintain the departmental student database; review, troubleshoot, and approve degree progress reports for undeclared students. Recruit, hire, train, and supervise part-time advisors as directed to support onboarding and advisement functions. Develop and facilitate onboarding workshops and contribute to departmental initiatives such as course scheduling and program planning. Serve as a point of escalation for complex student advisement and onboarding cases. Collaborate with departmental leadership to refine onboarding policies, procedures, and best practices. Contribute to continuous improvement of onboarding initiatives through data analysis, reporting, and feedback. Perform related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree and four years' related experience required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

A minimum of one year directly related to providing college-level advising. Experience advising students in special programs and/or with a cohort model. Understanding of student development theory and academic advising principles and methodologies. Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team. Strong organizational, communication (written and oral), and facilitation skills. Strong data management and computer skills, particularly Microsoft Office Suite, and an aptitude to learn new systems as needed. Prior experience with student planning, scheduling, and degree auditing tools, such as Schedule Builder, DegreeWorks, or similar programs, is a plus.

CUNY TITLE

OVERVIEW Work individually with students, or a caseload of students to explain academic policy, guide academic actions, assist with course selection/registration, and provide transfer support. Work with students to support student degree progress, manage data utilizing various CUNY technologies, and develop differentiated advisement strategies for special populations and challenging cases. Provide referrals, resources, and workshop facilitation for academic support, student opportunities and scholarships. Serve on advisement-related campus committees and liaise with academic departments or support advisement-related projects within assigned areas. Discuss career exploration, major selection, career-degree alignment, and career milestones. Provide basic financial aid information available on CUNY student platform to students, including award information, how course enrollment may affect aid eligibility, steps required for verification, and understanding Standard of Progress/Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) status and the process for regaining eligibility. Send student communications, document/track all student contact and respond to alerts and cases and run reports to manage student caseloads as assigned in current CUNY student platform. May supervise junior advising staff, student workers, or interns: may provide onboarding/training for new advising personnel. May engage in special projects and other duties as assigned. COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

$85,556 - $94,017. Salary commensurate with education and experience.
