Job Summary The Dental Assisting program at Santa Fe College is an ADA Commission on Dental Accreditation program that includes basic dental sciences, didactic theory, and clinical experience. The Adjunct Assistant Professor will develop, prepare, and teach coursework in Dental Assisting, including classroom, laboratory, and clinical instruction. The position requires flexibility to teach during day, evening, or online sessions and to support program policies and lead faculty responsibilities. Responsibilities and Duties Plan, organize, and deliver instruction in didactic, laboratory, and/or classroom settings to promote student success. Support and promote the college and departmental missions centered on excellence in teaching and learning through quality instruction, curriculum enhancement, and timely service. Collaborate with the Director, faculty, and peers to evaluate, revise, and develop curriculum that cultivates mastery of course content. Demonstrate technological literacy and innovation in instruction delivery. Assist with implementing college policies, objectives, and functions in accordance with SF philosophy and strategic initiatives. Participate in departmental meetings and collegewide committees as needed. Provide students with frequent, timely assessment and clear feedback regarding academic performance. Document student progress and maintain records including attendance, grading, and learning outcomes. Develop methods that fairly and accurately assess student progress toward learning outcomes/objectives. Maintain appropriate office hours proportionate to instructional assignment. Strictly honor privacy and security of student records in accordance with state, federal, and college regulations, including FERPA. Comply with all college rules, procedures, guidelines, and laws governing public employees. Provide service excellence through courteous, informed, and professional engagement. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Background and current knowledge of dental assisting; for didactic instruction, at least a baccalaureate degree. For laboratory, preclinical, and clinical instruction, hold any current dental assisting credential required by the state and a Dental Assisting National Board "Certified Dental Assistant" credential; advanced clinical functions require appropriate state credential. Licensed dental hygiene faculty may teach corresponding dental assisting functions without additional certification. Required to pass a criminal background check; clinical faculty must obtain a PPD screening before clinic access and an annual flu vaccination. Preferred: 2‑5 years of clinical dental assisting experience and relevant teaching experience in a community college setting.
