Educational Talent Search Coordinator

Educational Talent Search (ETS) is a federal TRIO Program funded through the U. S. Department of Education and the Department of Labor to provide academic, career/workforce, and financial counseling to eligible middle and high school students and to encourage them to graduate from high school and pursue their post-secondary education. ETS consists of a Middle School Component that serves 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students in five target schools. Tutors are also available to provide assistance for students. The High School Component serves eligible 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th graders in two target schools in Hampton via free tutoring, annual college tours, Financial Aid and Financial Literacy seminars, and career/workforce and academic workshops.

**This is a grant-funded position. Continuation of the position is contingent upon the continuation of related grant funding.

Examples Of Duties

The Academic Coordinator is a full-time, 12-month employee who reports to the Program Director and performs the following duties:

• Recruit eligible students into the Educational Talent Search program.
• Coordinate and implement targeted academic interventions, counseling services, and activities that assist eligible students in their adjustment to the middle and high school environment;
• Recruit, oversee and assign tutors and coordinate all training for the tutorial program; Evaluate monthly progress reports submitted by tutors, and review academic progress with tutees as warranted;
• Regularly monitor and report on participants' academic progress, program attendance, and participation in project activities, and make appropriate interventions and referrals.
• Assist with coordination of college tours, outreach and recruitment events, volunteer opportunities.
• Maintain electronic records of all tutoring sessions and review feedback reports to ensure timely intervention as necessary;
• Make presentations to student groups and help students apply for admission and secure financial aid to workforce training programs, four-year universities and/or community college, to include providing information on scholarships, grants, work study, loans, and other financial assistance programs;
• Advise students on financial aid policies and deadlines, effective study skills, time management strategies, and test-taking techniques;
• Supervise the Mentoring Program, and collaborate with the Program Director to maintain reports on students' semester and annual academic performance.
• Attend all Educational Talent Search staff meetings and submit reports as required.
• Assist the Director with the administrative responsibilities required to effectively manage the program.
• Assists with social media presence through creative design, photos and other records.
• Required evenings and weekends and other duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

· Master's Degree in guidance and counseling or a related discipline.

· A minimum of one year of experience in counseling and administrative and supervisory experience.

· Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills and demonstrated ability to work with students from low-income, first-generation college backgrounds.

· Ability to perform multiple responsibilities simultaneously, to work in a self-directed environment, and to plan and organize on both a daily and long-term basis.

· Demonstrated commitment to the goals and objectives of the Talent Search program.
