Job Description
TITLE
Registered Nurse - Step-Down Unit

SCHEDULE
- Shift Type: Days/Nights
- Weekend Coverage: Typically 1/month

ASSIGNMENT DETAILS
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Guaranteed Hours: Not explicitly stated

REQUIREMENTS
- Valid Illinois RN license required
- Minimum 2 years RN experience required
- Certifications: ACLS, NIHSS, BLS
- Experience with stroke and cardiac populations preferred
- Experience with Cerner for charting required
- Key clinical skills: ventilator care, telemetry, IV start/maintenance, central line/PICC care, trach care, CRRT familiarity, IABP exposure, management of post-thrombolytic stroke care

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide high-quality nursing care to patients in the step-down unit.
- Monitor and assess patient conditions, including vital signs and neurological status.
- Administer medications and coordinate patient care according to established protocols.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes.
- Educate patients and families on post-procedural care and health management.
- Maintain documentation in compliance with healthcare regulations.

COMPLIANCE / NOTES
- No RTO first week; max ~7 days RTO per 13-week contract.
- May be asked to float within the service line or to affiliated hospitals.
- Background checks and drug screens may be required.
- Free parking available; bring a locker lock and lunch or money (~$10 for cafeteria).
- Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions only); COVID-19 vaccine NOT required.
