Overview Facility: Chula Vista Medical Center, City: Chula Vista, Job Status: Regular, Shift: Night, FTE: 0.9, Shift Start Time: 7:00 PM, Shift End Time: 7:30 AM, Hours: 12/36 - 12 Hour Shift. What You Will Do Provide direct and indirect nursing services to patients and families. Required Qualifications Graduate of nursing school. 1 year of clinical experience ( New Grad and Transition‑In‑Practice (TIP) RNs with less than 12 months experience will complete new‑grad requirements). California Registered Nurse (RN) – CA Board of Registered Nursing – REQUIRED. AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) – REQUIRED. ACLS Certification (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – REQUIRED. Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certification (C‑EFM) – REQUIRED. Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) – REQUIRED. Other Qualification Requirements New Grad and TIP RNs must obtain NCC Certification in Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C‑EFM) within one (1) year of hire. The department will track progress. Essential Functions Clinical advancement Use systematic planning, appropriate methods and timely exchange of information with multidisciplinary team and patient/family to coordinate care. Demonstrate ability to focus on and manage multiple patient needs and aspects of care. Actively communicate with care team to plan patient care. Utilize available resources to problem‑solve and determine the most effective approach. Clinical judgment and decision making Utilize the nursing process and a critical thinking approach to provide individualized, goal‑directed care consistent with current safety standards. Identify potential problems and continuously evaluate interventions, adjusting the plan as patient and family needs change. Initiate referrals based on initial and ongoing assessments and collaborate with team members to develop comprehensive care plans. Prioritize resource demands and act as a preceptor/teacher for other nurses on applying the nursing process. Implement safe, therapeutic, and efficient care for patients with complex needs. Maintain accountability for achieving patient outcomes and adhere to documentation requirements. Clinical leadership Delegate and communicate expectations for care delivery to each team member. Determine the appropriate level of supervision for delegations and ensure completion. Assess appropriateness of physician orders and question when needed. Offer assistance, support, and constructive feedback to coworkers. Serve as a resource for managing unit‑specific documentation issues and assist with teaching. Seek opportunities to improve work processes and systems. Nurse‑patient/family relationship Establish a therapeutic relationship, anticipate and address barriers such as spiritual, cultural, language, or communication challenges. Act as a patient advocate, remove obstacles, and provide appropriate support. Deliver age‑appropriate education to facilitate recovery, self‑care, end‑of‑life care, and health promotion. Coordinate transfer and discharge planning and collaborate on patient education materials. Demonstrate flexibility in teaching based on learner assessment and adult learning principles. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Perform the nursing process independently, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Provide safe nursing care in complex situations with some assistance and supervision. Demonstrate competency in unit skills and select advanced skills; may teach some skills to others. Coordinate patient care administered by other team members and may act as relief charge nurse. Use common equipment and medications safely; consult others when unfamiliar. Recognize inconsistencies in care, manage potential complications, and prioritize workload effectively. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and comply with regulatory and accreditation standards. Display professional behavior and participate in unit activities and committees as appropriate. Delegate and communicate expectations; teach necessary skills and mentor others to improve practice. Employ critical thinking and complex problem‑solving to promote clinical effectiveness and efficient resource use.
