Litigation Practice Assistant – Education Law

Direct Counsel is representing a Public Entity Defense firm seeking a Litigation Practice Assistant to support its Education Law and Litigation practice. This role is ideal for a legal professional with 3+ years of litigation support experience , preferably in education law or public agency matters.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, revise, and proofread pleadings, motions, discovery, briefs, and administrative filings
• E-file documents in state and federal courts and before administrative agencies, including the Office of Administrative Hearings (OAH) and Public Employment Relations Board (PERB)
• Manage litigation calendars, court deadlines, statutes of limitation, government claims, and administrative hearing schedules
• Organize and maintain electronic and physical case files
• Draft routine legal correspondence and assist with trial and hearing preparation, including exhibits, witness lists, subpoenas, and hearing binders
• Coordinate meetings and serve as a professional point of contact for clients, including school district administrators and public agency representatives
• Assist attorneys with billing, matter management, and other administrative support

Qualifications

• 3+ years of litigation support experience ; education law or public agency experience preferred
• Knowledge of state and federal court procedures, administrative hearings, and Government Claims Act processes
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and legal document management systems (such as iManage)
• Excellent proofreading, organizational, and communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining strict confidentiality

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting attorneys representing public school districts or government entities
• Familiarity with education laws, including IDEA, FERPA, Title IX, Section 504, the California Public Records Act, and the Brown Act
• Experience coordinating with school boards or other public governing bodies

Compensation: $75,000–$85,000 annually (DOE) + Annual Bonus

Hybrid work schedule : 1 day after 30days and 2days after 60days
