Dialysis Technician or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) | Dialysis

Location: Avera Dialysis – Sioux Falls Worker Type: Regular Work Shift: Primarily days with rotating weekends and holidays (United States of America) Pay Range: $19.75 – $33.75 (Actual pay rate dependent on experience) Position Highlights: May be eligible for $2,000–$4,000 sign‑on bonus. 72 hours per 2 weeks including every other Saturday. Brief Overview Performs tasks contributing to maintenance dialysis for patients with end stage renal disease, under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse. All facility staff must meet the personnel qualifications and demonstrated competencies necessary to serve collectively the comprehensive complex needs of the dialysis patient. Identifies intradialytic comorbidities and monitors patient and equipment alarms during treatment. Responsibilities Understands water room equipment operation and function; completes testing and follows up appropriately on abnormal results and completes required documentation. Completes dialysis treatments, initiation and discontinuation from internal accesses, monitoring of vascular access function and appropriately reports signs of stenosis, occlusion or infection to RN. Assembles and prepares necessary treatment supplies, rinses and primes dialyzer and attaches and installs all required tubing according to unit procedure. Tests and sets parameters according to dialysis prescription. Monitors equipment for safe and proper functioning, responds to alarms, and makes appropriate adjustments, including blood flow rates and fluid removal rates. Completes accurate documentation of dialysis access and patient treatment. Observes patient during treatments, notifies RN of any adverse reactions. Responds to dialysis‑related emergencies, immediately seeking assistance from RN. Provides technical assistance to nurses and readily follows direction from nurses for hemodialysis treatments. Participates in collaboration with patients, family, physicians, other nursing staff and all ancillary departments. Qualifications Must be able to work the specified hours. Visual acuity adequate to perform position duties; ability to communicate effectively with others, hear, understand and distinguish speech and other sounds. High School or GED equivalent. Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT) – NNCC within 1½ years or Certified Hemodialysis Technologist/Technician (CHT) – BONENT within 1½ years. Dialysis experience or healthcare experience.
