Environmental Specialist I - Water Administration Cambridge Field Office

Job Summary Environmental Specialist I - Water Administration at Cambridge Field Office. This role collects, analyzes and reports surface and groundwater data, and regulates irrigators and other water users. Key Responsibilities Collect, analyze, and report surface and groundwater data. Regulate irrigators and other water users in assigned area. Measure streamflow, conduct field investigations, inspect dams, assist with preparation of orders, and participate in hearings. Perform streamgaging, streamgage maintenance, streamgage construction, irrigation meter reading, and surveying gage datum. Conduct CREP investigations and dam inspections. Prepare dam inspection notifications and Water Administration letters. Collaborate with irrigators, Irrigation Districts, Natural Resources Districts, and other stakeholders. Travel frequently within service area; occasional overnight travel. Required Qualifications Associates Degree in physical sciences, natural sciences, environmental science, geology, biology, agronomy, civil engineering, environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, hydrology, community and regional planning, or related field, OR two years of related work experience. Valid driver’s license or ability to provide independent transportation. Ability to maintain regular and reliable attendance. Physical ability to lift 50 lbs., climb a 10‑ft ladder, climb, bend & stoop, work in outdoor temperature extremes, walk on uneven terrains and steep slopes, wade in or around streams and lakes. Ability to identify crops and irrigation equipment. Submit resume, detailed experience, and current professional references with valid telephone numbers. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Knowledge of hydrology and water principles; Nebraska water laws; agriculture and irrigation; stream gaging procedures; mathematics for computing stream discharge; water quality sampling characteristics. Skill in basic surveying techniques; maintaining and repairing scientific equipment; reading maps and GIS; communicating with the public on water rights issues. Ability to operate, maintain, and repair field data collection equipment; interpret and explain water laws; accurately collect data; measure streams; write investigative reports; exercise good judgment in adverse weather.
