Co Manager

Ulta Beauty, Inc.

OVERVIEW The Co‑Manager (CM) is responsible for leading through Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values to develop a high‑performing team that consistently delivers top‑line sales growth for the store. The CM leads the Operations Manager (OM) and is accountable for all operational aspects of a single retail store. This position provides a developmental experience for leaders who demonstrate potential to do more. The CM drives the store’s business through a focus on performance (sales, service, and expense control), people (talent acquisition, training, and development), and process (operating procedures and compliance standards). This role requires a passion for process excellence, a drive for results, and the ability to lead, influence, and develop the team. GENERAL SUMMARY & SCOPE The Co‑Manager is the primary leader responsible for implementing Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values and for the overall operational performance and growth of the store. PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES The CM is a champion of Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values and is expected to perform the following duties. Performance Promote a culture of accountability to meet or exceed the store’s goals related to retail and service sales, guest loyalty, payroll, omni‑channel, and retail shrink. Drive company profitability through operational excellence, top‑line sales growth, and expense control. Leverage store forecast and payroll budgets to support scheduling needs and communicate expectations to the GM, maximizing productivity and achieving payroll and sales goals. Review, analyze, and react to financial and operational reporting, including store visit and audit results, in a timely manner. Use company programs, tools, and resources to drive improvements aligned with Ulta Beauty’s goals for the store. Perform makeup applications, skincare analysis, and product demonstrations with guests to drive sales and service experience. Stay informed on new and existing industry trends, products, and services and educate guests accordingly. Maintain punctual attendance as the CM and hold store associates accountable for the Ulta Beauty attendance policy. People Attract, hire, and retain a diverse team of top talent and address staffing needs efficiently. Build a highly engaged team that embodies the Ulta Beauty brand through effective collaboration, honest communication, and prioritization of work. Create an inclusive environment that encourages associate growth and engagement. Support all aspects of manager and associate professional development, including training, feedback, performance reviews, succession planning, and individual development plans. Participate in and provide ongoing training for brand and category education to enhance professional development and sales performance. Ensure direct reports consistently participate in ongoing training and brand education. Model teamwork and operational excellence by working alongside the leadership team, establishing priorities, providing clear direction, and sharing best practices. Execute the Guest Engagement Leader program flawlessly through business ownership, associate coaching, and a friendly guest experience to drive performance across all APGs. Process Be knowledgeable of and ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty policies, procedures, and standards. Adhere to and enforce Ulta Beauty’s dress code. Execute operational tasks related to inventory life‑cycle processes (e.g., truck, shipment, cycle counts, inventory, damages, testers, returns) as well as ad set and planogram processes. Use the company’s scheduling tool to schedule associates appropriately. Use the company’s task management tool to prioritize store workload and ensure compliance with company policy. Protect company assets and minimize loss by meeting all store standards and operating procedures, including safety, inventory control, cash management, and loss prevention. Execute day‑to‑day inventory control processes and complete theft reporting when necessary. Support continuous improvement by influencing the adoption of company initiatives and technology. Communicate and provide feedback to field leadership on business trends, opportunities, operational challenges, merchandise needs, and competitive insights.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education Bachelor’s degree is preferred. Experience 2-3+ years of fast‑paced retail or related management experience. Financial management: success in driving top‑line sales, interpreting reporting data, managing payroll budgets, and controlling expenses. Retail management: proven ability to monitor inventory, achieve operational excellence, drive a service culture, and execute merchandising directives. Leadership management: experience with talent attraction, development, and motivation, adaptability to change, collaborative relationships, and team influence. Skills Proficient with basic technology such as Point‑of‑Sale systems, Microsoft Office, and Apple devices. Excellent written and verbal communication. Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills. Strong organizational skills for managing multiple tasks. Ability to react under pressure, use sound judgment in ambiguous situations, and remain flexible/adaptable. SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS Work a flexible, full‑time schedule that includes days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Attend off‑site meetings, which may require overnight travel. WORKING CONDITIONS Continuous mobility throughout the store during shift. Frequent bending, pushing, reaching, and twisting during shift. Frequent lifting and/or moving up to 10 lbs.; ability to lift and/or move up to 40 lbs. Continuous coordination and manipulation of objects during shift.
