Key Responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive respiratory care including mechanical ventilation (invasive and non-invasive), oxygen therapy, aerosol treatments, and nebulizer administration as prescribed by a physician
• Perform arterial punctures, oximetry, capnography monitoring, pulmonary function studies, chest physiotherapy, and patient suctioning via oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal methods
• Assist with procedures including bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomies, chest tube placement, and PleurX catheter drainage; perform tracheostomy care including insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes
• Perform 12-Lead EKG, basic arrhythmia recognition, endotracheal tube insertion and removal, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation in accordance with BLS and ACLS guidelines
• Set up, self-test, operate, and monitor mechanical ventilatory equipment; assist with preventative maintenance and repair as needed
• Accurately document all treatments, patient responses, and respiratory therapy charges in patient records; communicate effectively with attending and pulmonary physicians and participate in shift-to-shift handoff communication

Required Qualifications

• Active Respiratory Therapist license or eligibility to practice in the state of Iowa
• Current BLS and ACLS certification
• Demonstrated competency in mechanical ventilation, airway management, and respiratory assessment
• Ability to perform arterial punctures and interpret blood gas results to assess ventilation efficiency
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision within the scope of professional licensure

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience with video laryngoscope systems for endotracheal intubation
• Familiarity with moderate complexity laboratory testing protocols including specimen handling, quality controls, and documentation
• Experience in an acute care or intensive care setting
