JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Summary/Objective
We are seeking a motivated Mechanical Engineer who wants to make a meaningful impact designing robust, rugged electronic systems for military applications. This role is ideal for a creative, hands-on engineer who enjoys solving complex challenges, designing, prototyping, and testing unique products in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team environment. The ideal candidate brings strong mechanical design expertise, hands-on prototyping experience, and a passion for creating ruggedized products for extreme environments. This role involves translating engineering requirements into durable, manufacturable solutions while collaborating closely with electrical, manufacturing, and program management teams.

 

Essential Functions

• Design and develop mechanical components, enclosures, and assemblies for ruggedized electronic systems.
• Conduct 3D modeling, simulation, and detailed mechanical analysis using CAD and related tools.
• Create and maintain engineering documentation including drawings, BOMs, test reports, and design validations.
• Perform tolerance analysis, thermal analysis, and structural evaluation for mission-critical products.
• Plan, build, and test prototypes to verify mechanical performance and environmental resilience.
• Collaborate with electrical and manufacturing engineers to draft work instructions that ensure seamless integration and high-quality production.
• Support continuous improvement efforts in design processes, manufacturability, and quality.
• Assist with supplier engagement, material selection, and production troubleshooting.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards including MIL-STD, IP ratings, and other environmental qualification requirements.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities but requires strong collaboration across engineering, manufacturing and business development teams. 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

• This is a full-time position. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the “core” work hours of 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. 
• BDATech observes a 9/80 schedule, providing employees with every other Friday off.
• This position is 100% on-site to encourage continuous team communication and collaboration

Travel
This position may require up to 10% travel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field; advanced degree a plus. 
• 3–7 years of relevant industry experience (defense, rugged electronics, aerospace, or similar strongly preferred). 
• Proficiency with Creo, SolidWorks or equivalent CAD tools; experience with PDM systems a plus. 
• Strong understanding of mechanical systems, materials, and manufacturing methods including CNC machining, injection molding, and sheet metal. 
• Experience designing for harsh environments (shock, vibration, thermal extremes, ingress protection). 
• Familiarity with MIL-STD testing and certification processes preferred. 
• Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
• The strongest candidates will be self-motivated problem solvers who bring ideas forward, communicate clearly, and take ownership from concept through customer fielding.

Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to obtain a U.S. Secret Clearance
